IE10 fails to install on HP laptop running Win 7 Ultimate 32 bit

Hi, HP G60 214 EM (European/UK). Nvidia GeForce 8200M. 32 bit Windows, now Win 7. It's about 4 years old now, I guess.

Yep, thanks, had that installed before, 2009 version. Present in C:\SWSETUP\

So I installed it just to see what would happen.. and Action Centre still shows a driver update (which doesn't download), PnPDriverNotFound as before.

Hi, thanks. For a moment I thought there was a chance of having solved it, but no. Probably after installing the driver above, I noted Windows Update offered the graphics driver update and the nForce controller. So I accepted those, and restarted. The graphics driver is now back to a 2013 version.

Here's the detail: (Note the reference to 'a new device attached to your computer').

1. Windows Update shows nothing.

2. From Action Centre (Download and install a Driver Update):

Hi, I'm fairly sure it is the webcam.
It certainly doesn't work.. and did - and with this windows installation.

Imaging devices
Device on USB2.0 Hub properties
Driver date 21/6/06
version 6.1.7601.17514
No drivers are installed for this device
- Update driver
=> the best driver is already installed

Uninstall, restart
=> same.

Tried the driver you suggested.. another old HP driver- webcam unaffected.

I've found a number of posts where users lost their webcam and could never get it back again by ordinary means.

There doesn't seem a specific driver for it on HPs website.

I've no idea exactly what caused this, except it may be linked to attempting the IE10 update.

If desperate, I do have some disk images... but would lost some changes in going back some time of course..

Hi- it's pretty boring, I'm afraid. I've enabled hidden devices in this view.

One comment I read suggested the webcam may be installed using a program supplied with the laptop.. Cyberlink Youcam.

I have that installed, but of course the webcam isn't working.

I'll try reinstalling it.. seems a weird way to deal with a lost driver.

Oh, dev mgr only lists the one driver entry under Imaging Devices.. so there's not a conflict.

Your device manager looks good . Try to use a program that uses webcam like Skype .

Presently am looking thru this:
https://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc...veCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3879661

(HP Troublehooting, my PC, etc.. There's quite a bit about webcams.)

Despite the dev mgr appearing clear, it shows no driver installed (first attachment)

But it should identify the webcam as this: (2nd attachment)

I've also tried downloading and installing the original Cyberlink Youcam as suggested in 'Troubleshooting'.

Time for a registry edit?

Ok, so change of plan. Most people find a lost internal webcam driver impossible to fix. So I've restored my Windows and apps partitions from a disk image taken before I tried updating to IE10.

My PC had also begun to hang during the shutdown phase of restart after all this, so this was inevitable.

=> Webcam back, Dev Mgr entry now shows HP Webcam. :)
=> Restart ok.

After applying Windows Updates, bar one NVidia driver update (which downloaded, but failed repeatedly) I manually installed the Feb '13 one I had.

Action Centre still shows a driver update pending.. the same as above.
I guess that's consistent with windows update, anyway.

So I'm just left with a Windows Update Nvidia graphics driver, which can only be a month or so out of date, and avoiding IE10.

The Windows graphics driver may well be a lot older than the one your' using - simply ignore it, or hide it.
Please post new SFC and CheckSUR logs, and we'll take a look and see what's there that may block IE10.

The IE10 logs are interesting - they show that at the time, you had both BitDefender and Advanced System Care installed.

If this is still the case, you are likely to have major problems.
UNINSTALL Advanced System Care - after attempting to undo anything its registry cleaner has managed to screw up.
