IE8 Annoyance

Hi,

Over the lasy day or so, I've noticed this error pop-up, everytime I open up IE8 (32 or 64 bit versions) the first time, after a reboot only (it opens without the message if I close and open it without rebooting).

I've not changed anything I'm aware of, and besides the annoyance factor, everything else runs perfetly fine. I always close IE8 properly before shutting down, so something is causing IE to "think" it hasn't been closed properly.

Does anyone know what causes this, and how I can "fix" it?

I've gotten that a couple times if I clear history and then close IE, not sure why though.

Ahhhhhhhhhh.....hang on a minute.

I made a registry change to prevent Favorites showing in Windows Explorer. I wonder if that is clashing with IE8????

Let us know if the registry change was the problem. I doubt it since I also see the same error on occasion but did not try to remove Favorites from Windows Explorer (other stuff, sure, but not Favorites).

I was getting that error too. My browser was closing (actually completely freezing 1st) pretty often. I ended up re-installing Seven (other issues) and I'm not in too big a hurry to go back to IE8 or 9.

You can also try IE without the add ons.

Start> All Programs> Acessories> Tools> Internet Explorer (No add ons)

If that version works then one of the add ons is probably messing up.

If it turns out to be a bad add-on causing it as Mike suggested above, then you could test to see whice one it is by disabling each add-on one by one until you no longer get the error, then re-enable all but the last one afterwards.

Well guys. Been trying to hunt this down....but magically, it seemd to have dissapeared by itself. I'm not entirely sure how or why, but the problem has just....well....gone away.

I run my IE pretty lean (no add-on's at all) so I'm unsure what happended.

Anyway, I'll take the win.
