IE8 in Windows 7 Beta

The Windows 7 Beta includes a beta of Internet Explorer 8. I say “a beta” because IE8 in Windows 7 Beta is a pre-release candidate build of IE: it’s IE8 Beta 2 plus end user features that are only available on Windows 7 plus many fixes based on feedback we’ve gotten from IE8 Beta 2 usage. This post is an overview of what you’ll find new in Windows 7’s Internet Explorer, as well as some suggestions about how to get the best experience with this pre-release software.

I am not a fan of this IE release, if I did not have to use it for MS sites I would never touch it. Keeps on stalling. IE is about the only thing i would change on this build so far.

I don't a problem with how IE8 performs, but it crahes alot. But when it works, it works well.

Yeah, that is funny, I use IE and Firefox, I didn't see that in FF because of Adblock Plus.

I love my Chrome Except for the fact that I cannot choose Open File when downloading something, you have to save it.

I hope they still have a lot of work on IE8. In my opinion, it's far from ready.

Microsoft: IE 8 Release Candidate won’t install on Windows 7

Windows 7 testers won’t be able to install Microsoft’s near-final Release Candidate (RC) test build of Internet Explorer (IE) 8 — a limitation Microsoft is acknowledging and saying is by design.

The IE 8 RC is expected to be downloadable by the public any day now. Earlier this month, Microsoft made available to the public the (only expected) public beta of Windows 7.

An eagle-eyed blogging chum of mine spotted this tweet (from a freelance writer/editor colleague of mine) over the weekend:


A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that the tweet from writer Robert Vamosi was, indeed, accurate. Her e-mailed statement in response to my query:

“It’s not really a ‘won’t work’ issue as much as a ‘won’t install issue’ since it is a beta and the goal is to get feedback on the Windows 7 beta itself. (Here’s info on the IE build that’s in Win7 beta.)”

The version of IE 8 that is part of the Windows 7 beta is an interim beta release and is not the equivalent of the forthcoming RC.

I have an interesting problem with IE8. I can open a website in a new window without any problems - great response time too. But, when I try to open a link from the website in that window, a new window opens but nothing else happens - I see no header info, etc. The same happens when I select "Open in a new register card" - the card opens but remains blank. Since I haven't had too much time to troubleshoot the problem in the IE settings, I can't give any other info to the problem, except that I have W7 bulid 7000 64bit installed. Thanks! Charlie
