Solved I'm doomed

So I got an message from my AV saying that I had an Trojan horse and i should put it in my valt, so I did. About 15min later my computer restarted itself, and before it got to the starting windows bit, it said missing operating system. I tried doing a start up repair, and it said it was repairing some disk and it would take an hour to fix. After about a minute it said there was an error. I don't know what else to do. Im guessing i have no operating system, does this mean all my files are gone?? I have nothing to back up with so I had no back up.

Well, if you have kept an image of the C drive then now is the time to restore it.

If you have not then instead of struggling to repair the System just clean reinstall Windows. That is because I hold the view that no repaired system is better performing than a clean install.

Do you have any usb devices plugged in (like a flash drive) sometimes a system will try to boot from it and you'll get that error or if you have a CD in the drive and your CD/DVD drive is the first drive. Go into the BIOS and make sure your hard drive is in the boot loop.

If you have another computer you can pull the suspect hard drive, install it in an external enclosure and run chkdsk /r on the drive and also scan it for viruses.

Sometimes it can take up to 3 attempts at Startup Repair before it "takes". Keep trying it a few more times to see if gets you any further.

As already stated, if the repair does not work do a clean install and don't waste hours on struggling to fix a hosed OS.

I too think you should do a clean install, BUT, you might try to fix the computer if you are interested in saving your data.

Did you do the suggested 3 startup repairs? You can try an sfc scan: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139810-sfc-scannow-run-command-prompt-boot.html (by Bare Foot Kid).

I'm trying to do 3 repairs now, and I will do the command prompt later today when I get back from my part time job.

I doubt any will work, because in the windows installer it doesn't show any windows installed at all. It's like the virus uninstall it

Nope. I'm not wasting my money on an externial haha, and then mum doesnt want to waste like $50.
I did use to half my hard drive and make backup, but then there was to much data, that doing a backup and having windows left like no space.

Its not that much important data tho, just music and family photos... :\

There is this company that i always hear this add on the radio, that say that can recover data, that other companies cant.... but the thing is are they legit and stuff

Do a Repair Install, go to Windows.old, backup to a USB. Then do a full clean install after that, then somehow de-infect the files from the USB. Recuva may also be a solution

Its time to start thinking about investing in an external backup option, otherwise you certainly will always be 'doomed'.

I've done 3 repair instaills, but because windows does not exist, it says its going to start repairing disk, and then comes up with an error saying that it cant do it for some unknown reason, and i can send a report to Microsoft.

I will probs invest in an externail when i go to Uni which is in 2 years, when i get a laptop which probs will be a mac (Not that i have anything agaisnt Windows)
I don't know i use to hate em , but after using them for 13 years at school, they have grown on me... and just the desgin of them

Well my hardrive is no longer Partiton, so all my data along with windows is on the Main hardrive which was C???

Hi Mitch!

Work through these steps for when Windows 7 fails to boot to disinfect and then try to repair System files, then Startup Repair.

If all fails do the clean reinstall. You need the latest official installer ISO download with SP1?

I don't think I can do anything of what you said, because there is no trace of windows at all. I don't even get to the loading screen with the flag

Might have to send my hard drive to one of those places that can recover data. If they don't get your data then it's free
