I've just installed Win-7, RC1 to my old 7077 HD and I let it install clean, putting 7077 in the OLD folder.
After taking ownership of that entire folder, I just deleted it.
There was nothing there that I needed anyway.

I can't get over how fast Win-7 is when compared to XP-pro on the same PC.
Words can't begin to express how fast this thing is running now.
It seems to really be exploiting my AMD X2 5200+ CPU and six gigs of 800mhz, dual channel ram.

I've even emptied the Windows Mail folder and copied the files from Vista, to give me a working Windows Mail in Win-7.

But, I can't find the tweak that makes Windows Mail my default mail handler. ( It prompts me to make it my default, every time I open the program. )
I read it somewhere, but now when I need it, I can't find it.

Other than that, I'm just very, very, happy with the new Win-7 RC1.

PS: Oooops! I spoke too soon, because I've now found how to make Windows Mail my default email client. Job done.

I'm using Windows Mail but I can't find any tweak to make it the default either. I find any Mailto links open Outlook (or try to). I have Outlook installed as part of Office Enterprise but don't use it and it is certainly not set as the default mail handler as I checked).

By the way Swarfega, that watermark removal crack failed to work. Still looking for a way to fix that and the issue I reported elsewhere where certain gadgets wont add themselves with an "unspecified error".

A way to solve the "Outlook" problem is to UN-Install it.
When ever I install Office, I use the "Custom Install" option and only install the things I want (NOT Outlook) and then I force it to install on a separate partition, keeping all that file bloat off of my C: drive. That makes scans and backups go a lot faster.

As for Windows Mail being set to Default, I found the answer in the program itself. It's one of the options under the "Tools" menu.
I'm in XP right now so I can't quickly reference it.

There is also a lengthy registry script to do the job, but I've not run it, since finding the answer right in Windows Mail. It's DO'able.

Last night, I even found a way (don't ask) to turn off that little flag in the system tray.

And for the purists, that don't like the look or play of the new Solitaire, just copy the old one from XP. It runs fine on Vista or 7.

Somewhere I read that AVG 8.5 FREE won't run on Win-7, but....
It does! It does! It does!
So does "Spybot Search & Destroy" and "Spyware Blaster".
Even the Beta 6 version of "Hosts Manager" runs just fine on Win-7.
And if you're into PRO versions of Security Software,
"AVG 8.5 Pro" and "Super Anti-Spyware Pro" also work just fine on Win-7.

Thanks I may uninstall Outlook as I really don't use it at all. I read somewhere a while back that, in order to make any programme the default, there has to be another program available to default from, which sounds a bit weird but I found it worked in 7000 when I installed Incredimail Premium which I may yet try here.

The Make default option in in WM/Tools/Options/General but the setting wont stick, probably becuase the program isn't officially part of Windows 7.

For your own computer safety, just Google "Incredimail Spyware" and do some reading.

I'm just enjoying the heck out of Vista's Windows Mail on my Win-7 RC1 machine.
I have it tweaked and adjusted to look and run about 98% like my old favorite, "Outlook Express 6". Last night, I imported my Windows Address Book from windows XP into Win-7. It must be converted to a CSV file, but that's no problem, because the Export routine in XP can do that for you.

It's bull**** about the spyware stories - old wives tales from when it first came out years ago & it had a short-lived relationship with Smiley-Central which we all know is "Spyware-Central". Incredimail Premium (which is what I stated) carries no ads. Incredimail is listed on the NYSE and has received numerous awards. Believe me, it makes emails so easy and it's one of the few applications, if not the only one, that doesn't have to be open to alert you to incoming new mail via the taskbar and sound alerts.

I've been using it for years and admit some of its stationery can make emails quite large, but so can stationery in any email application.

I use Windows Mail for what it does best, a newsgroup server.
