Not a biggie but just curious if there was a work around to the following problem. I have just installed a 3TB external drive for backup purposes and was testing the image restore feature. If I use the external drive on the usb 3.0 port when entering F8/System Repair/Repair from image, the drive is not detected at all, when I plug it into the 2.0 port it is detected. Within windows itself the drive operates fine on the 3.0 hub. I am guessing its some kind of USB 3.0 driver issue within system repair but wondered if there is a work around. Not sure I want to sit and wait for a restore over 2.0 when it could be using 3.0!

Do you notice a similar problem when using a 2TB or less Drive?
>2TB (ie.3TB) drives can present a number of problems in themselves.

Add:
If you are using the usual MBR partition table, rather than a GPT then the start and size of a partition cannot exceed 2TB. I think 2x 1.5TB partitions should fix that issue.
You might want to use Partition Wizard to do this.

It wont work unless you install the drivers for it. When Windows boots normally, it installs the drivers.

hmmm, thats annoying, nice 3.0 speeds for backup, slow 2.0 for restore! Any method for loading in the NEC drivers after hitting the old F8 key?

I am using GPT, I did briefly consider the 3TB issue but it would not explain why it works perfectly well restoring under USB 2.0. I think the issue is the F8 Fix windows does not load up USB 3.0 NEC drivers

Aren't you given an option to load drivers when reimaging via F8?
I always reimage using the system repair boot directly and it has a load driver option. Wouldn't this enable you to load the USB 3 drivers?

You can use the "load Drivers" option, but it's far more trouble than it's worth. I have a couple of USB 3,0 drives, but I only use them for backup now. I was disappointed in their performance. For imaging and restoring I use eSATA drives. A lot faster, and no problems.

I can image my system partitions in about three minutes, and restoring an image takes just over eight minutes at current system levels on this machine.

Given you have already invested in the USB3 drive I certainly would try loading the drivers at reimage time. You may find it only a minor inconvenience.

How do I get the USB 3.0 drivers into a usable format that the 'load drivers' option will recognise? I used driver details to copy nub3xhc.sys and nub3hub.sys to a memory stick but upon attempting to load these it just comes back with a 'this file does not contain information for the hardware' or some such message. The NEC USB 3.0 driver installation package only installs to the HD, I dont seem to be able to get the USB 3.0 drivers into a usable format, any thoughts?

I have the same problem. Did you find out how to create the USB3 driver files
