Also tell them that the recovery stick I made did not even boot. The system went directly to Windows 8.1 although I had changed the boot sequence to boot from USB3 (the one and only port I have). Maybe all that happens becuse it is a 32bit system.

The Macrium recovery stick works in that regard. With that the only problem is that I cannot see my micro SDXC card. With Macrium I also have the other problem. I cannot get it into the bootloader.

Did you create the aomei recovery iso on the transformer, then extract it onto usb?

I created the stick on the Transformer directly from AOMEI. It looked like it createrd a viable recovery stick - but it did not boot.

If you get a moment, try installing and running aomei partition assistant on the transformer. We shall see if that can find the HD .

Post a screenie of it's main window.

They are Chinese, so it is easier to show than try to explain.

It does not show some of the other partitions.

That is quite a strange machine you have.

Part assist finds the HD but not the volumes. Backupper couldn't see that disk at all.

Weird.


Can you post Part assist log files - they are in C:\Program Files\AOMEI Partition Assistant Pro Edition 5.5\log

Not sure why it thinks that is a gpt style disk.

When we have the partition Assistant logs, that is all we can send them.

It looks like a normal 32bit 8.1 system - not a Pro. Otherwise it runs great.

I am guessing the partition assistant logs will show it thinks it is gpt, but obviously can't find the headers.

Don't know what can be triggering that.

I just noticed your diskmgmt screenshot shows

Disk0, Disk2,Disk3.

What happened to Disk1 ?

Hmm, that is indeed strange. Maybe it is reserved for the mini USB port - that is the only other port on which I could put a disk or stick.. I have to investigate that. But I have to first get a workin OTG cable. Mine is defunct.

Hello again!

I installed the latest version of Macrium Reflect Free that I downloaded (Build 6.444 I think) and then it updated to 6.6465. I was reading the interactive help file that Macrium has on the official site but there's a lot of changes. For example, I can't find the setting to enable image backup verification (after the creation).

I set compression level to none because I have lots of space on my USB HDD and like thngs done as fast as possible (also as reliable as possible of course). Should I set the "verify image before restore" to "yes"? Is there a point in doing that? I left most of the other options on the default setting.

I wasn't able to set PE files location to my C partition though, it sait that it's because the available space is unknow. Why is that so? I have over 25 GB of free space on the C partition.

If I run into any other stuff I'll report here. I'm not doing the system image until I get more familiar with all the funcitons.

I rebooted my PC and then the C partition became availabe so I chose C. What are Macrium Reflect PE files anyway and where exactly will they be stored and for what?

What about my other questions, where is the image verification function, any idea? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Anyway, I'm planning on doing monthly full HDD image (not clone), no compression, all partitions. Is this a good idea? I'm only concerned about a desaster scenarion (total HDD failure). I would like to be able to (in case it happens) buy a new HDD (smaller or bigger size, different characteristics and brand), put it in my laptop and restore full HDD image (all three partitions) on it. Will I then have to do something more or is that it - all done? Change time settings perhaps? Adjust something? MBR is made, no problem?

You worry too much. Try it out on a small 2GB partition and 90% of your questions will be answered.

You break it, learn how to fix it. Mistakes are very good teachers. Don't think too hard, things usually are simpler than they seem.

When you are creating/editing the definition you need to select Advanced Options to find the verify checkbox...

This is one reason that I don't like the current GUI and program behaviour compared to the previous version.

The previous version used a Wizard that offered you the "Advanced Options" during the procedure, instead of hiding them behind a tiny link (available on one screen).
