inaccessable missing partition

For the third time: if you can see the data (which you said you can) then you can copy it out and should do so without delay as anything else that you do may make it immediately inacessible. Why can you not follow these urgent warnings? Do you not care about your data?

Hirens Boot disk is not supported here so we cannot help you with it although it can copy out the files which is the first priority - you have been given two other alternatives to use for that. I have also rebuilt a partition table using Disk Genius trialware.

If it will not rebuild and start after copying data, then I would wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command and do a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums. This time stick with the tools and methods given which work best with Win7.

Finally everything is back on track.. testdisk is just a miraculous utility I have ever seen, it just converted c drive to logical I guess and it was not active i simply booted up with win 7 dvd ran diskpart checked drive's status and it was not active made it active then ran automatic repair and bingo now not only the windwos is working other partitions are also resurrected and without a single byte of data loss, now I still have some queries should I ask them here or do I have to make new threads it would be better if i simply ask those queries here

Now to answer your question, the partition table in an MBR disk resides in the first sector (usually called sector 0) alongwith the MBR code. Rewriting the partition table either with PW or TestDisk therefore will not affect any data which normally begins at sector 63.

In your case TestDisk did something more than rewriting the partition table, it converted the drive to logical - for what reason, I am still unable to decipher - that made your drive unbootable.

So you had to run through this loop to make it active. I am glad you made it.

Needless to say we have also learnt something from your experience.

Since I was busy the whole day struggling with my crippled Desktop, I couldn't think of your problem.

In a situation like this I would have run PW from a bootable pendrive to find out the condition of the drive. And from the limited search I had made on the subject, there was none to have successfully recovered after the injury inflicted by Partition Magic but those were the early Windows 7 days when people used Partition Magic by mistake and Test Disk/PW were much less known.

The drive may have been converted by the unsupported Partition Magic which can cause serious problems. Test Disk may have only been mounting or dismounting it as the partition type it already had been set.

Either way by converting it back to Primary and marking Active it points to conversion to Logical causing the problem.

During the early Windows 7 days, I also used Partition Magic and screwed up my drives but it was never a problem since all my data was already backed up and so I would just clean install Windows 7. But that was all before news came out that it is incompatible with Windows 7.

Thank you so much greg and jumanji for your support my problem regarding missing partition and boot failure has been resolved, now I want to share how it all started actually i have a pendrive of 8gb I ran Clean command via DiskPart and interrupted in the middle of the process and since then windows detects it hardware working properly everything is clear but when you try to access the drive it says there is no disk in drive H: please insert disk and diskpart also doesnot detect it from what I have found through googling is that diskpart clean commands write 0 bytes and this error is commonly known as 0 byte usb drive this is what has happened to me i installed partition magic so I can somehow access it this is why when PM gave asked me to repair the drive I confused it with my hard drive I was thinking it will fix the usb drive, then all this happened to partitions but the USB 0 byte issue still persist now that my pc is working again I want to bring my pen drive back to life I dont need and data from it just want to make it work again.. if you guyz have any idea ill be grateful

apart from 1) pen drive which shows 0 byte i have some more issues to discuss , 2)since yesterday i am unable to boot from usb drive on my HP dv7 while usb drive is working fine i tried booting other computers through it without any obstacles

I would advise you to start a new thread each for the above two problems since those have no relevance to this thread . That way it will be seen by more people and you are likely to get a better response than getting buried here.

when your partition is gone, means 'sayonara' .. there is no way to retrieve it back.. if u use 'partition recovery or recuva' , there are lotsa unknown files retrieve it from your hardisk .. furthermore, very messy!

There is no guarantee since you interrupted it, but normally Clean command should be able to be simply un-deleted by running Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help.
