Hello kf10,

Most of these miracle cure to increase your PCs performance type programs are nothing but snake oil, and usually cause more issues. I would recommend to stay away from them.

If you like the tutorial below can show you safe ways to help improve your PCs/Windows performance. You can just pick and choose which ones you would like to do.

Hope this helps, :)

You could try ...

You could try:

  • CCleaner
  • Glary Utilities
Make sure that you use the backup options in those programs (just in case).
Better yet, create a Backup System Image and then test the result.

Here are a couple of tutorials:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/615-backup-user-system-files.html

I use Macrium Reflect and I haven't had any problems with it (I recommend it). :)

Iobit Advanced System Care claims that it can "optimise" your PC.

I used to use it, but it constantly annoyed me with nag messages, so I stopped using it.
I did try the optimise setting once, but I didn't notice any improvement.

I wouldn't recommend it.

I would not use any Registry Cleaners (except CCleaner's Registry tab which is safe) or Optimizers at all. We see nothing but problems caused by them here.

Make sure you have a perfect install to begin with, then stick with the tools and methods which work best to get and keep a perfect install as provided in Clean Reinstall, which are the same for retail.

Here are Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7

Increase PC performance you should need maintain your system properly. You can use antivirus for secure your system. Don't save unwanted data in your system.
