Indexing starts from strach on each startup

Hi,

The issue started earlier today. I turned on my laptop, tried to search for a file, but couldn't find it. So after hours of reading forums, I figured out how to index all the files on my computer and did it. I thought it was going to work, because after the indexing process all my files were accessible from windows search, just like they used to be. (i've been using this laptop for 2 years).

So I decided to restart, just to check, but when the computer turned on again, I had the same problem! I couldn't find my files in search, so I opened the indexing properties menu and saw that the whole process started again. It usually takes an hour or so, I've done this a few times.

I really don't know why it doesn't "save" the indexed files as it should. They should be accessible from search right on startup, but no, indexing stars again every time. A system restore wouldn't help I guess, nothing has changed on the system in the past couple of days. This is really annoying, I hope someone will be able to help me.

Where is the index stored? By defualt, it is "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft", so try changing it to that if it isn't already, then do a rebuild.

Thanks for your help, but the problem seem to have resolved itself today. Interesting, for I haven't changed any settings.

I would run the System File Checker. Use the cmd prompt as administrator. Type in sfc /scannow It will give a check to see if their is anything else. Computers don't normally fix them self. Notice the space between the c and /

Sorry, for the late answer. SCF didn't find anything unusual, no corrupted files. But strangely, this whole rebuilding thing keeps happening. Once or twice a week, the index automatically rebuilds itself, I have no idea why. This can get really annoying. Any other ideas?

So we can go farther could you fill out your System specs. It is in your User CP.
Do you use and cleanup tool or Tune up my computer 3rd party programs? To the best of my memory some of these tool will remove the built index.
Look in the lower left of my post My System Specs, this will give you a idea of what is needed.

Ok, I've filled out what I could. The only thing I use is CCleaner, but I've been using it regularly for years and cleans seem to have no effect on the index.

I've just checked what happens when I restart the computer. So all the files were indexed, then I restarted and it all went away. It took a minute or so for the search software to start indexing again, it was paused on startup with 0 items indexed. Strange.

Yes, that was my first thing to do, it didn't find any problems.
