Windows Froze On Startup or from Sleep

The issue began when my computer would not come out of sleep mode. Shutdown, then I ran system repair without seeing any problems. I went to boot program, examined, saved and exited, the system came back. Later on, it froze again when normal startup. I pulled one 4 gb memory card in the back of the machine, pulled the DVD drive out and it then booted successfully. I've run a full virus/Malware scan with AVG & CC Cleaner I put the memory card back in, it worked for one startup, the next startup froze so I've took it out permanently. Is there another set of directions which I could employ. Thank you

First, run a disk check
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk c: /f
It will say your disk is in use and if you want to schedule to next start = yes
Restart
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc

Back to windows, do a System File Check
Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
sfc /scannow
If it find any problems, reboot and run it again.

If you suspect that you have a memory problem, run a memory check (%windir%\system32\MdSched.exe)

I ran all three steps you recommended. I looked at Event Viewer and could not find specifics on the file fix, but the memory diagnostics showed no issue. I've took out the 4 gb memory stick, so I suppose I need to re-insert it and run the memory test again. The file fix did show 154 reparsed fixed files. The scan disk didn't find any errors. I'm hesitant to put the system in sleep mode because I'm not certain how to fix that problem in the event in freezes again. Any suggestions is appreciated.

Still having the same problem. Can anyone guide me to what to tell the computer technician to look for since I clearly can't do it myself. It must be hardware related because I switched hard drives and the problem remains exactly the same. i switched the insert-able memory 4 gb, no help. Thanks for any suggestions, I'm at the end of my rope, maybe this machine can be saved, who knows.
