HI, I've lurked this forum for some time already, but now that I had some specific doubt I decided to Sign in :)

I wanted to change the icon for WAV files, so I did so by modifying the right icon in Wmploc.dll, using Resource Hacker.
The thing is, when you swipe a icon, he actually swipe a group of Icons. In this case, 6 icons of different sizes:

wmploc_icon_group.jpg

What I would like to know is if there's a way to change only two icons of this group (the ones signed with the name 722 and 723). So, I can have another icon with better readability on those small sizes.

Hope someone knows a way to get there. Thanks.

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I've personally never used resource hacker but it would seem doing it like that you'd need 2 separate files to add to those two entries ?
Scaling never works very well in any graphic's program I would usually just export as and save it to the sizes I wanted. in a icon's case I'd have 6 separate files in those sizes.
Then save that file to a .ico file type,
Cheers.

Thanks for the comment Thrashzone,

I probably would do exactly what you said, the only problem would be re-injecting those 2 individual icons in the Icons Group. That's the thing that I don't know how to do.
Afaik, Resource Hacker doesn't let you do that, it only changes entire Icon Groups at once. In the picture from my last post, I only changed the WAV's resource with one icon (a 256x256 one), then Resource Hacker automatically created all the different icon sizes of the Icon Group related to this resource.

There's another software or way to change those individual icons in the Icons Group?

I would guess you'd have to make your own icon file/ pack and use it instead of letting r.h. do it for you
If you post the files you want to use someone might give it a spin :)
Cheers.

Ok Thrashzone,

Here are the icons that would be converted in that icon pack/file that you sugested

Music.ico should be used for the Icons with Original Names: 722 and 723 (as indicated in the OP img)
Filetype - WAV.ico should be used for the other Icons on this Icon Group (Original Names: 724, 725, 726 e 727)

The guys that know how to do this kind of icon pack (and how would be better to apply them), would be cool if they also tells me how it's done ...so in the future I can do such Icon Packs by myself too

If someone needs more info on this issues though, feel free to ask

So.... ...anybody got some idea?

I'm still interested in this issue ...it could be useful to do other kinds of customisation, if something like that was possible. Hope somebody has some clue on what could be tried.

Sorry man I don't do .rar files :(
But as far as I know you can open .ico files in free gimp and remove the layers you want and add the ones you want too,
Cheers.

Wut? why you don't open rar files? :p it's dangerous at some cases?

Well, that's a interesting point. I have used a .ico plugin for Photoshop in the past, that allowed for opening and saving ico formats. But I'm pretty sure Photoshop saw the ico as a alpha enabled img composed of only one layer.

Does gimp sees it any differently, or I misunderstood your meaning completely?

Edit: By what I understood, you told that Gimp would see a ICO as a Icon Group, where its parts are divided in layers.. ...is that it

Edit02:
Wow, you were right ...Gimp actually opens the ICO as a Icon Group ...I wasn't expecting it to happen :p

Awesome ...now it should certainly work

Your welcome :)
Yea .rar files depend on having a deducted utility to open those file types and it's usually pup filled = Potentially unwanted programs included which is really why they aren't worth it to me to bother with .rar files
Plus I don't use third party themes so :/

In any case sorry it took so long for me to suggest gimp but I wasn't 100% sure it would work either so thanks for confirming that
I've created .ico files in gimp but not edited any so far ;)
Cheers.
