Solved Desktop Icons, Grouping, How?

Is there a way to group desktop icons into various catagories? And have them remain in place after logging off and logging back on?


Do desktop icons get all pushed to the left when a user logs off and then logs back in? That used to happen to me in Win XP. It is so disruptive when that happens, I don't even want to try it to find out.

You might give the free version of Fences a try to see if it may work for this for you.

Fences is definitely a good program to do it. I've been using that program for a long time and you can really do what you want with it.

Hi.

I used to use Fences. I found it after I got sick of my icons getting disrupted in Win XP after a user change (log out, log in as another user, log back to first user.)

I was wondering if Windows 7 got this mess under control with Windows 7. If not, it will be back to Fences.

Nope, the desktop icons will still sometimes get reordered when doing those actions in Windows 7 as well.

I wound up buying Fences 2.0 a while ago. It cost about $10. I think Fences stopped offering their free version.
