Two things you can try are to start from scratch with uninstalling everything ATI on the system the using Driver Sweeper too. After, install using this thread.

If that doesn't help, try clean installing Windows and then taking it from there.

Hello! This is my first post here... I just installed Windows 7, and i am having trouble with my display driver. I have installed Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, and i have a HIS Radeon HD3850 512mb AGP card. I have tried to download the driver from ATI/AMD and from HIS, but no luck. The driver from ATI/AMD don't even get installed as promised, and the driver from HIS installs, but i get an error saying that "the driver wasent installed, this driver is not for this operating system" or something like that.
Can you help me?

Hi and welcome.

Since you installed x64, you will need to find a way to permanently disable driver enforcement or use f8 when starting the machine to disable.

Attach the .inf from the driver install after your extract from it, to a post using the paperclip. You'll have to use Winrar on it first. It will be in C:\ATI somewhere. So...attach the .rar file.

I'll edit it and then you can download my version to replace yours. (Replace and overwrite, while copying.)

i'm on 32-bit 7 now with good video but no sound because i couldn't get any HD 3850 AGP drivers to install on 7 x64... i will give this a shot. thx for the info!

I was able to load the CCC and drivers for 9.3 using an edited .inf file I saw on another (AMD) forum. I'm running Windows 7 home. I would like to try the 9.1 driver to try and clear up some fuzzy text issues I'm having. Could you tell me what I have to edit (and what file) in the 9.1 driver? Thanks.

Why don't you give the latest 9.11 driver a go, from the first post of this thread? Which video card do you have?

I have a Sapphire x1950 Pro. Well, let me try using the method in the first post then. I didn't see my card listed with the ones discussed and didn't want to install the wrong .inf file. I'll report back what happens.

ATI Catalyst? Legacy Display Driver

Here ya are. Install it like this:

Extract by running it, to C:\ATI

After is extracts, close the installer.

Go to device manager. Right click video card. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Double click on the .inf. Hit ok. Hit next.

I guess it's ok now. I was able to install the legacy driver without any mod this time.
It reads: driver date: 9/29/2009
version: 8.593.100.0
I'm assuming this is the best driver I can use. Thanks for your help torrentg.

No hassle Hotfix 9.11 available from ATI

I remember when I first tried Windows 7 RC on my AGP PC with a Radeon HD 2600 card, and I had to manually modify the INF files and install as per the instructions in the first post. When I recently installed the final version of Windows 7, I expected to have to go through the same procedure, but found that ATI made available a Hotfix version of Catalyst 9.11 that installs without any trouble, CCC included, if desired.

Just choose one of the "Radeon HD x000 Series AGP" choices from the driver selection page, and you will be taken directly to the Hotfix download page page.

Maybe I am missing something from the regular Catalyst driver release that the first post so well describes how to install..?

I have a Radeon 3450 and this procedure doesn't work for me. I still get a very frustrating mode not supported error on my TV. I had no issues at all on Vista.

First of all thank you very much for all yur driver solutions for people with ATI AGP video cards (mine´s 3850 agp).
But about 10 days ago ati published in the agp hotfix drivers section the Cat 9.11 Windows 7 WDDM 1.1 drivers for agp hd cards. I though too that it was the WDDM 1.0 vista driver but when yu install the driver the folder is "C:\ATI\Support\9-11_agp-hotfix_vista_win7_32_dd_ccc\Packages\Drivers\Display\W7_INF". When it was the vista driver the folder it wasn´t W7_Inf, so i think now this is the same driver that the pci-e cards, the WDDM 1.1 driver.
Anyway, Is there any tool to know if yu have a WDDM 1.0 or 1.1 driver installed??

Hey there. Should work fine. Are you running into any type of problems?

I have had no problems with the card being recognized. However, once I install all the drivers (tried several drivers, hot fixes, etc.) I get the same result after reboot. The display either goes black, checkerboard, or just plain freezes. I have not tried torrentg's solution yet. Hopefully that will make a difference, but I will say that the difference in install between NVidia and ATI is frustrating.

Ya, should be fine using his method, as I said. It's very easy to do once you're used to it.

If not, update your chipset drivers and/or bios then reinstall the video driver.
