Just noticed his process is for 32 bit... I have 64 bit Win 7 installed.

The process is for 64-bit as well. Just need to permanently disable driver signing enforcement or do so at each boot. You really should be running 32-bit instead with that hardware. And very much especially since you only have 1 GB system ram. That's a bad mismatch you have going on there.

Thanks for the help Legacy. I will give it a shot and hope for the best. Another year and I can probably actually catch up with technology and multi-core. I have never messed with disabling driver signing, got any tips?

You're welcome.

At each boot, continuously hit f8 until you get the choice to do so.

Or Google for ways to permanently disable it. It exists but I can't say because I run 32-bit machines only.

Excellent, I am sure I will be reporting back. If it becomes too much of a hassle I might just go back to Vista 32-bit (yikes) and try again. Win 7 might have to wait until that future upgrade if all else fails.

You will have absolutely no problems whatsoever on Win7 32-bit with this thread's video install procedure. You should clean install that and it will even be better then Vista ever could be. Even if you had the hardware for it, you're not missing out on anything at all with 32-bit as opposed to 64.

Then at the extreme very least, buy another 1 GB system ram. Getting exact same modules you have already will be easiest/most compatible.

Ram is cheap nowadays. Cheaper then buying the 32-bit Windows. That's for sure.

Extract to C:\ATI

Then right click card in device manager. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Find CL_51251.inf and double click on it. Hit ok to let it install.

You can add this line to the .inf after you extract form the installer. Add it in the section where all the other similar ones are:

"ATI Radeon HD 4650 AGP" = ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9495

Then follow the rest of the process same as for 32-bit.

You don't replace the .inf in your instance, but rather edit the existing one by adding the line to it that I've shown.

I would try the first one you listed first. If for some reason that doesn't work from that one, then do the 2nd.

The third one is never used and can be forgotten about.

I am in the process of doing just that. After a couple failed attempts I realized the INF was geared towards 32-bit systems. Ignore that previous post lol...

lol yeah...start by downloading the latest catalyst 9.11 64-bit...then extract....then edit the .inf...then install using the device manager as the OP shows.

Now this is really funky. Driver intalled fine (with a permanent disabling of the digital signer) and I followed with the reboot. Everything worked until I moved the mouse. I can leave the mouse alone for 1,5, even 10 minutes using only the keyboard but once I touch the mouse it is lights out... WTF!

For the record the mouse and keyboard combo is a wireless Logitech LX501

Go to Logitech's website and install the latest drivers.

Also good to do, install the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard.

And add system ram!!!

You can use safe mode + networking if needed and use the device manager to install the same way you did the video card driver.

Just a heads up... I quit trying on that 4650 and plopped my aging 6600 back in. RMA'd the videocard (Newegg is awesome) and am looking at the 7600GS for a little bump. Any known issues with that guy?

just download xp drivers from the website the full suit and run compatibility mode xp sp2 and install and thats how it worked for me

Hi there windows 7 master (i meant torrentg). I have a problem with my gigabyte hd 4670 graphic card. I can't do a custom install because it wont pass full instalaltion progress and instead of that it just install windows hd 4670 driver which doesn't allow me screen resolution above 1024x768.

Please oh please help me...
