Install program, but not only in the admin account

Hello everyone!

I am new to the forum and found it because I was researching a problem:

I want to install a program to record Skype calls (Record Skype Calls with iFree Skype Recorder - Your FREE Skype call recorder software).

Works pretty well on my Windows XP machine. And in theory works well on the Windows 7 machine as well. Only that now that I know a little more about Windows, I am not using the admin account for day to day usage.

So there is a normal user account for all the work and then there is the admin account, seperatly.

Now this Ifree Recorder needs admin rights to install. So far no problem, I am also the admin. But then the program installs only for the admin account and I can't use it from the normal user accounts. I already researched a little bit and it seems to be a flaw of the program, that seems not to have a multiuser installer.

However, is there any way to make the programm also accessible under the normal user account or do I really have to switch accounts whenever I want to record a call (besides the security issue).

Would be great if someone has a solution (or can definitely tell me that this is not possible - but that is the least prefered solution... ).

Hi holch, welcome to the forum.

Bear in mind, that I'm assuming from all of this that Ifree Recorder doesn't need admin rights to run just Install.

Log into your Administrator Account, and navigate to C:\Users\<whatever your normal username is>\Desktop.

Drag and Drop, or create a shortcut on the Standard User Account's Desktop to the program. (WIll probably be something like C:\Program FIles\Ifree Recorder\Ifree.exe but that's just an example.) Eh Voila, now accessible through the normal account.

Standard Users have rights to access Program Files, they just don't have access to write to them.

In fact, you can probably do it from the Standard Account, but if you do it from Admin then I know it will work.

If this would be the solution, this would be great. Sounds pretty simple. I'll try it right tomorrow morning, when I am at the Win7 machine again.

It will work, that's the way I used to do it myself, many moons ago when I was running a Standard Account. I ended up getting annoyed with it though.

Sometimes Windows realises that your just "borrowing" the Admin account, and other times it just assumes it is the Admin account.

So I went back to being Admin, and trusting UAC to do it's thing.
