Hi all

I'm looking for some software so I can monitor software installations so I can see what changes are made to the system during the installation and monitor what registry changes are made. I know such software is around as I used to monitor installations on my old VM a while back but I cannot for the life of me remember what the title of it is!!

RegShot open source is one such tool. Not very stable though.

If you really want to know details, ProcMon is a very good tool, but it may contain too much info for your purpose.

We have internal tools, live monitoring system changes using application virtualization techniques, but not released yet.

forgot to mention, our vmlite workstation will have these kind of capability as builtin. For example, you can compare two snapshots of the vm for files/registry changes.

From these changes, you will be able to create Virual Apps, that runs everywhere without install. The Virtual Apps contain a virtual registry and virtual file system, so it runs without touching the host OS. Virtual apps runs inside vm, or directly on host machine.

Hi there huisinro

Many thanks for your suggestions. I will most likely download and try both of those products which you have suggested. In the meantime I had been doing a little more googling at my end whilst waiting for a reply, most results I found was for keyloggers and other such garbage but I did manage to come across Process Monitor v2.6 but this is only for Vista and also a program called Total Uninstall which is compatible with XP which is the VM's OS I am wanting to monitor.

I will probably try out all of what I found and see how things go from there :D
