Solved Installed, but cannot call up program

Your help appreciated Guys.
I have a program (CompuWorks Desktop Bible) - This is marked suitable for XP, Vista, Win 7.

this is installed successfully on my Win XP Laptop, and functions perfectly.
Same applies on my wifes Win 7 32bit computer - no problems.

However, on my machine (Again Win 7 32 bit) I can install this, and confirmation is received that the install has completed etc - but when I double click the program shortcut(s) icon(s) there is an instant perceptible flash but no program opening response happens.

I have used this program for some time without any problem, then one day it misfunctioned.
I have this program on both floppy disk AND on a CD direct from the manufacturer. The unusual thing about this program has always been that its presense is shown in the C Directory (not in the programs file.) This is the case also with the two Machine that operate successfully.
Your thoughts and hints would be very much appreciated.
Cheers
Purgatory

You can try running as administrator (right click and select Run as Admin) or use compatibility mode. Search for it here as I am out and using my phone.

Thanks GokAy
Tried running as administrator, and just for an instant it tried to open (very short flash)

Then tried the various compatibility options. I just got the message "file not found"

My first wild guess is an antivirus or antimalware program partially intercepted either the installation, or, the calling up of the program. This happens to me from time to time, until I "educate" the overly-assertive antiWhatever to exclude folder or file.

Alright try uninstalling and then installing with run as admin. Also disable AV for a minute (disconnect internet if you feel unprotected) while installing as per Roland's suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestions chaps -

I have uninstalled - entered into safe mode, and reinstalled (rightclicking on 'setup' and selecting run as administrator)
Same result - instant flash of program that disappears instantly. I suspect the program may be open(?) but the display is not for some reason showing(?)

Only other thing I can think of would be some other component needed by the program is somehow missing. I have no idea if directx would do this or perhaps Visual C++ redistributables are missing.

From Microsoft website, download and install Visual C++ 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012 for x86 (32 bit) and see if these fix. There are service packed versions I believe but do run windows update and check for updates just to make sure after you install these. Downloads will be few megabytes. Also from Microsoft install directx 9.0c web setup.

Hope this helps!

I'm wondering if in this particular computer there is a video drive train clash, driver conflict, going on.

Hi
now reaching areas where I become a little hazy:o
Any further/fuller detail would be appreciated + any diagnostic help.
Computer runs faultlessly (other than this hitch) in all regards.

Thanks every one for your ideas - keep them coming:)

Yes I do have Java installed - it is up to date, and the configuration settings are the same as the other win 7 PC that successfully uses this 'problem' program

Oh just another one

- Go the the computer where it works and copy them, paste into and overwrite the files in problematic computer.

One question you asked that I missed earlier, if the program actually opens and keeps running, then you should see it in Task Manager processes tab, possibly with the exe name.

I had the same double posting earlier, guess it is some kind of a bug. You can edit and delete the 2nd post.

I will be going to bed shortly, if I come with more ideas I will post tomorrow. Keep trying or use an online Bible! :)

Good thinking GokAy
I have just popped into task manager, and the program IS reported in applications running - cannot however readily identify an entry in processes

What happens when you select it in Task Manager and right click->Switch or Bring to Front? Try both

Hello again GokAy
went to task manager - right clicked - and selected bring to front - and switch - both had no effect whatsoever.

Will now try to copy the entries from the 'good' computer, and overwrite these to the 'bad' one as you suggested

Not sure if they are BAD :) It can be the registry as well or perhaps a rights issue.

After you try copy pasting, if it won't work try:
- right click the folder for the program->Properties->Security->Edit->Add->"your username"
- while selected in upper window click on full control below ->apply

see if it will work

It is now SOLVED:)
As in many cases, the answer was so simple it was unbelieveable.
1 - I clicked on the desktop program icon
2 - I hovered the curser over the taskbar icon
3 - Doing this brought up a further small window - on which I right clicked and selected maximise.
This brought about a fully working program.
I can claim no credit for finding the answer - this came about by searching the web.

I would thank those who sought to help me on this issue - very much appreciated chaps
Thanks again
