Installing as any user does not have privileges

Well, as of right now I've only tried to install ESET. I have researched the error message and have seen that this issue happens with more than just ESET, so it seems to be a "Installer doesn't have enough privileges for [folder of install path]" bug.

Some things I have been noticing is that I don't have rights to delete folders (I wanted to delete all ESET folders before re-attempting install again) and even then I don't have rights.

I'm flabberghasted as just how "un-admin" like the "admin" role is here, lol.

OK, I just downloaded Firefox 3.6 and installed it. Upon installing, it prompted me (I think that was the UAC) and I was able to install it with no problems.

So ESET is the program you are having trouble with. What happens if you run the ESET installer?

It goes through the install process, and when it gets to the point where it starts the install, I end up getting that notice that the installer does not have privileges for all the files it is trying to install.

Just a FYI, the installer is a .msi file

Option 1 : Holding CTRL + SHIFT prevents double clicking on the item. Right Clicking while holding this installs as normal user, which fails.

Option 2 : This option is not available on my context menu

Option 3 : This option is grayed out, preventing me from selecting it on the COMPATIBILITY MODE tab.

You try the Command Prompt step in Build-in Administrator account

Select Start > All Programs > Accessories.

Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator. A Command Prompt window will open.

In the Command Prompt window, type the following commands exactly as they appear below, including all spaces and quotation marks, and press Enter at the end of each line:

icacls "c:\ProgramData" /T /C /grant administrators:F

exit

Reboot the system then log back into the administrator account and try to install it

Hope this helps,
Captain

OK King-

1. Restarted into Safe Mode
2. Computer sat a "Welcome" for over 6 minutes. I don't have patience, so I forced a restart into Safe Mode again.
3. Got into Safe Mode.
4. Attempted to install ESET, got much further than before, but ESET itself detected a failure (maybe can't do install in Safe Mode?) and rolled itself back.
5. I was actually able to goto the C:\Program Files\ESET folder and delete it in safe mode! And I deleted the C:\ProgramData\ESET folder too.
6. I reattempted install in Safe Mode to no attempt.
7. Restarted normally and Windows stated that some updates it attempted to apply failed, and it reverted me back.

Hey hey! That did it! I logged in as Administrator with the Password I set and was able to go through the install fully. I used an account that is expired (gotta find my key/password I bought that had a 3 user license).

You guys are fan-freaking-tastic.

Man, looking back at it all, I wonder what the overall problem was here. Definitely seemed like Windows 7 went sideways with the permissions.
