I have never installed a new os from start. Do i need to download drivers for my mobo ready for a fresh windows7 install?

Or does it find them automatically on the windows disc? Or online later? I have drivers on disc for all other hardware, but not mobo.

Just confused before I start.

Some drivers are available later form Windows Update, and some are built in. The best practice is to have them downloaded ahead of time, especially your network ones, just in case. I usually throw them on a flash drive and keep them handy for when my OS install is done.

If you Google the motherboard manufacturer you should be able to download the chipset drivers from there.

As long as you have downloaded your network adapter drivers to enable you to get online you shouldn't have too much difficulty in ensuring that device manager has all the drivers it needs.

I would recommend installing drivers in this order:

1. Chipset Driver – Helps Windows control motherboard components and controllers.
2. Video Driver – Enhances video performance.
3. Local Area Network Driver – Enhances network controller for internet access.
4. Audio Adapter Driver – Enables and enhances the audio controller.
5. Dial-up Modem – Allows a dial-up capability.
6. Wireless Network Adapter Driver – Enables the wireless network controller.
7. Keyboard and Mouse Drivers – Enhances keyboard and mouse capabilities.

In that case, you should be good to go.

As DeaconFrost says, Windows Updates will help, as will Windows itself.

Your chipset drivers can be obtained from the motherboard manufacturer as I mentioned.
