I have a copy of Microsoft Office Professional Plus purchased from Software4Students 2 years ago, and I have it installed on my main PC. I plan to buy a laptop in the future, and would like to know if I can install it 100% fine on a second device.

This is from the Microsoft Software Licence Terms:

1. RETAIL LICENSE TERMS.
These license terms are an agreement between Microsoft Corporation (or based on where you live, one of its affiliates) and you. Please read them. They apply to the software named above, which includes the media on which you received it, if any. Printed-paper license terms, which may come with the software, may replace or modify an on-screen license terms. These terms also apply to any Microsoft
• updates,
• supplements,
• Internet-based services, and
• support services
for this software, unless other terms accompany those items. If so, those terms apply.
BY USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU ACCEPT THESE TERMS. IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT THEM, DO NOT USE THE SOFTWARE. INSTEAD, RETURN IT TO THE RETAILER FOR A REFUND OR CREDIT. If you cannot obtain a refund there, contact Microsoft or the Microsoft affiliate serving your country for information about Microsoft’s refund policies. See Microsoft Worldwide Home. In the United States and Canada, call (800) MICROSOFT or see Microsoft North American Retail Product Refund Guidelines.
AS DESCRIBED BELOW, USING THE SOFTWARE ALSO OPERATES AS YOUR CONSENT TO THE TRANSMISSION OF CERTAIN COMPUTER INFORMATION DURING ACTIVATION, VALIDATION AND FOR INTERNET-BASED SERVICES.
IF YOU COMPLY WITH THESE LICENSE TERMS, YOU HAVE THE RIGHTS BELOW FOR EACH LICENSE YOU ACQUIRE.
1. OVERVIEW. The software is licensed on a per copy per device basis. A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.
2. INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS.
a. One Copy per Device. You may install one copy of the software on one device. That device is the “licensed device.”
b. Licensed Device. You may only use one copy of the software on the licensed device at a time.
c. Portable Device. You may install another copy of the software on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device.

d. Separation of Components. The components of the software are licensed as a single unit. You may not separate the components and install them on different devices.
e. Alternative Versions. The software may include more than one version, such as 32-bit and 64-bit. You may install and use only one version at a time.

The underlined sentences confuse me a little. Does this mean that yes, I can install a second copy of the software onto the laptop (which I do not own yet) but it won't be a licenced version? Anyone here with very good knowledge of how Microsoft Office works able to give me a bit of clarity on what exactly they mean and what exactly it would mean to me?

Cheers

Jon

With Office, you can install on a desktop and you can install on a laptop. As long as it's for the same user. So, yes, you can do 2 installs using the single copy of Office. Technically speaking, the second device has to be portable. So, in essence, you couldn't install a copy on your desktop and your wife's desktop.

What you wouldn't want to do, is to install your copy of Office on your desktop, and then install the portable copy on your friends laptop and send them on their way. That would technically be in violation of the license agreement.

It means you can install the software on your main computer and your laptop.

Your main computer is the licensed device and your laptop is the portable device for use by the single primary user i.e. you.

My grandson has exactly the same software as you, which he acquired from Software4Students. He has installed it on his desktop computer and his laptop and both copies activated without difficulty.
