Solved Installing TV Tuner Via Cable

I bought a HD Antenna and am trying that. I have DirectTV and would like to tell them good bye, but so far, I can't get enough decent channels. I just set it up a few minutes ago. I'm not through playing yet though. I live in the woods, so not many channels for me. But, Direct is costing me a fortune, and there is never anything my Wife hasn't seen on. With Direct, I pay about $100 a month to get 200+ channels, maybe actually watch 10 and they package it so I have to pay for the top package to get the 10 I want. And for your next question, we live so far out, it's Direct or nothing. We have no other choices, just like with Internet, we have 1 choice and it's lousy.

Don't use Digital use Analog

Wish this thread was titled appropriately for google searches so it could help others for years to come. Something like "Problems with TV Tuner Card and Win7." It's not even in the results now but would be at the top if it had been titled correctly for the issue.

Don't use Digital use Analog

I have set it up both ways and seem to get more reception with digital (it is a dual digital tuner) I even set 1 tuner digital and the other analog. I can't get it to set up DirectTV with Media Center. It detects the signal, picks up the right chanel, even shows the preview; but it won't let me set it up without an IR reciever. That's crazy. I have a remote with the directTV, I don't need an IR receiver and remote. Anyone have any suggestions, other than buy an IR receiver? They are not expensive, just more time and more crap hanging off the computer, THAT I DON'T NEED!

Media center didn't give you the option to choose one or not it did for me

Unless it changed there is an option to not use an IR receiver as Solar said. Mine was set as default, and I turned it on, I have a media center remote..yep I got the green button.

No Choice for me, and I couldn't find where to choose. It said no IR found and wouldn't let me proceed.

EDIT: Doesn't matter now, I just bought one. A cheap one.

The problem is that Windows media player is very tricky to setup, because it asks for many things that you have no clue about it. One of those settings I got stuck with was “IR hardware not found“ after doing a quick research about it on Google I learned that IR is a device windows media center needs to control the channels with its remote control instead of the top cable box remote control.

You will assume this would be optional but after clicking on cancel the process finish without saving anything. After playing for awhile with the settings I made it bypass the IR hardware not found error by doing the following:

Open Windows Media Center and go to Task>Settings>TV>Setup TV Signal click yes to whatever question come up. Click the default settings on the wizard until you get to the option where it asks if you want to setup your signal automatically or manually choose I Will Manually Configure My TV Signal select Antenna-it does not matter where you have your TV tuner plugged in. choose Analog Only Antenna after you go trough this return to TV Settings and click Finish.

Now you should have your media center setup without using a IR hardware. You will need to use the cable box to change the channels

That is what he was trying to avoid is using the box same thing I did direct line through

Also I figure a remote would be useless since you can change channels faster with the number pad then waving your controller at it

My sister has direct everything is like 20 of the same channel Basic cable kills it
