Installing Win7 for Refurbished PCs on laptop HD

I need some help...

The hard drive on my HP G71 447US laptop is corrupted and I am unable to create a recovery disc.

I bought a new WD 1 TB internal HD (and will try to replace it myself...wish me luck!) and wanted to know if I can use my Windows 7 Professional for Refurbished PCs disc that I got for with my PC and install THAT on my new WD laptop HD using the product code on my old PC and will the OS work with my laptop HD?

Did the old PC have Win7 Pro on it? If not the Product Key on the Notebook probably will not work. And I've seen Branded/OEM discs not work at all on a different brand machine, gives an error message.

Hello and welcome the sainted mate the easiest way if you can still see the activation code on the sticker under the machine is use this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164

just make sure you pick only the version the machine came with and best of all it will only contain Windows no factory bloatware. see pic of how to pic ISO.

Replacing the hard drive mate is easy unplug from the mains take out the battery and then earth yourself on something like a water tap in the kitchen.
Taking it out is usually a small door on the underside of the machine and you just undo the small screw holding it in and lift out the lid - the drive just pulls (gently) free and you will probably have to attach the small metal carrier to the new drive from the old one.

Once in reverse the removal procedure insert the ISO disk into the optical drive (you will need to set the first boot device in the BIOS to the optical - or the USB) then just exit BIOS and let it run!!
Post back if you get into trouble
PS Meant to say the old disk you have there unless Microsoft will let you install it on the new machine they are quite obliging to a point the disk activation will be tied to that old machine board

You can use any installation disc that corresponds to the product key on your COA sticker which is on the bottom of your laptop. If you don't have the corresponding installation disc, you can download and burn it from here:

Sorry I took so long to respond

while I was actually trying to purchase the drive and ask the tech questions on installation someone 'borrowed' my CD without asking and I finally found it and got it back. I will be attempting to do the install of both the hd into my laptop and install WIN 7 next week

Hum well if the borrowed disk was used mate and it is an OEM then it is going to be useless to you because whoever borrowed it will have the activation code tied to their motherboard. If it was retail one you are still going to have a few problems I would reckon.

Why do you need the key from your old pc ?

Didn`t the disc for re furbished pc`s come with a key ?

What OS came with the HP G71 447US laptop ?

What is on it`s COA ?
