Installing Windows 7 Upgrade to secondary hard drive

Thanks very much everyone.

I was able to pick up the new drive from the sorting office today. I'll order Windows 7 from The Ultimate Steal on Monday. Strikes permitting, I should have the disk kit by the end of the week and I'll install it as discussed.


My only final question is, would I be better getting the 32bit or 64bit version (they're both the same price). I have a 3GHz P4 Processor and 2GB RAM (I think the maximum limit for this motherboard is 3GB). Would that take full advantage of 64bit, or am I best sticking with 32?

In your situation, I would stick with 32 bit.

I don't know your ordering choices, but the standard retail packages here in the states include both 32 and 64 in a single package. If you can choose only one, I'd choose 32. Performance-wise, you aren't likely to notice the difference.

For that matter, I'm not even sure your processor and motherboard would support 64 bit.

If your motherboard doesn't support more than 3 GB of RAM (or even 4), 64 isn't necessary. There are some programs that you may use that won't install or run properly on 64. You may not be able to find 64 bit drivers for everything, etc.

If you were buying or building a new PC tomorrow, the standard recommendation is to go with 64, but you aren't in that position.
