So I have Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird pinned to my task bar. However, when I check, use small icons, the icons for ONLY FF/TB disappear and are replaced by like the windows generic file icon. Does this happen to anyone else? (Win 7 Ultimate x64)

However, on my MSI Wind with Win 7 Pro (x86), this does not happen to the firefox icon (no TB installed on MSI Wind)

Any ideas?

Another interesting thing is that if I right click the LARGE icon, it shows the program and the option to unpin, that icon there is also that generic windows file icon.

Have you messed with your Icon Cache or played with any Icon Change apps lately?

Sorry to bring up this really old post, but that just happened to me on a fresh Win7 Ultimate x64 install.

Installed 7U x64, then a few other programs, then firefox 3.5.5, browsed around for a while then closed it. Decided to pin Firefox to the start menu, then used the computer for other things, clicked on start menu to fire-up the fox and it shows up with a generic icon. Worse part is after I tried to "change the icon" the program wouldn't start at all. A few clicks later firefox started again but the icon's still missing.

A quick and dirty fix - copy the original firefox.exe to the same folder and use the copied firefox executable to start firefox.... the icon then comes back when you point the shortcuts to the copied firefox executable.

Weird.

Sounds like your shortcuts went corrupt, or lost the link to the original file. It's good you posted back a solution tho.
