internet connection problem

hi,

when i am trying to download a large number of files (not at the same time, I usually only download 3-4 files at the same time even I can ) from a particular website overseas. It often gives some files that are corrupted, (e.g zip files cannot be extracted, video files are not finished) but when I download the files again, the file usually has no problem.

I am using 100M broadband in Hong Kong, where the internet connection is the best in Asia. What's the reason behind? Is it the problems on my side or on the remote server side? or we both have problems? (server and user)

Usually when I download a file that originally claimed to be , for example, 300MB, but it could stop downloading at 280MB or 290MB. But I don't get any warning message or error message. This could be a problem especially for video files because incomplete video can still be played, but there might be a downgrade in quality that one might not notice.

Is there any better downloading programs than Firefox or Chrome with better downloading algorithm? At least it will notice me if the download stops or interrupted in the midway of the download

Hi, I've tested with Pingtest.net before but it gave A grade to my connection. It doesn't happen to every file. It only happens to a small number of file. I am not unsatisfied with my internet connection, what I am unsatisfied is that I am sure that Firefox / Chrome could give no indication at all sometimes if the files downloaded stopped in the midway.



When I download, for example, 100 large files, say on average several hundred megabytes only for each file, there could be approximately 2-3 files which are corrupted/incomplete during the download, but the browser (either Firefox or Chrome) doesn't return with any message about the incomplete.

It is not a problem for me to re-download just a small number of files. But it's a problem that it doesn't return with any indication in the download windows that the file is actually not completely downloaded.

I want to try IDM, but their manual suggests that they could corrupt the file if Antivirus is running. Any idea about that?

Is there any reliable download manager? I am not looking for accelerator. I am looking for something that would check the integrity / completeness (or at least return with any text noticing that the file is interrupted or stopped) during and after the download.

If this happens with only particular files then it may well not be your machines fault but a web server issue. What files are downloading? As in what are the source? This can help me determine if your machine is the problem or the web server
