In windows 7 around Aug 2013
Do you have problems downloading?
Are the exe files un-launchable- with a slash before them.
Does Windows not open zip files.
Are your file associations messed up even though you have not had a malware attack.
Well uninstall Internet explorer 10 .At least for now, until they fix it.
Remember it was made for 8.
I just have come across this lately on customers machines.
Hope this helps.

Welcome to the Seven Forums.

Thanks for posting about your experiences with IE10. Could you please tell me if this customer of yours was having problems getting to these files via a corporate intranet or the internet in general? Where "64bit tabs enabled" (aka EPM)?

The reason that I ask is - I'm seeing some issues getting to files within a corporate intranet via IE10 with EPM enabled.

IE 10 issue

These were two different regular consumer machines running IE 10.
They were at different locations ,just regular internet- I believe they were the
32 bit versions of IE 10 w.o.w.
There is no doubt in my mind that the file association issue is related to IE 10.
I have never been a huge firefox fan...
But for my yahoo,Att customers it's a must.
At home I watch TV on Win 8 pro and IE 10 and I have occasional issues, but no broken file
extensions like my clients in Win 7.
Hope that helps.
Slimbo
Not sure about protected mode they were 64bit machines but the IE that got updated was originally
a 32 bit version of IE.
I will try the EPM thing the next time I come across this issue, thanks.

I have both Yahoo and att accounts using U-Verse and I haven't had any issues ?
On either 64 or 32 bit systems,
Layout more details of the situations/ Like I'm an 8 y.o. lol and I might be able to test.
In your main question I don't have any issues with most,
Don't understand the exe thing ?
I'd like to add att and Yahoo have probably the Worst browser add-ons on the Planet.

Individual results may vary.
This is just an issue that occurred to two of my customers, only two.
I just wanted to save people some grief.

I wish I was eight years old ,but I am a 47 year old computer repair man.
Yahoo/Att yahoo seems to work better in firefox, they even have a yahoo version of firefox.
I received complaints from a few clients about yahoo mails functions not working or even being displayed -
properly in IE .
If it works fine for you that's great to hear .
There are many variables to take into account.
As I said results may vary.
I make no claims as written in stone that is why I put a date in my original post (August 2013)-
because things change and one update can fix or break things as I'm sure you're aware.
These issues are just things I come across in my work,I always keep an open mind and welcome any feedback.
Love,
You're humble narrator....Slimbo

A brief description of what was occurring,
When downloading say Super anti-spyware in IE 10 the download would not start or would fail.
A pop up at the bottom of the browser window asked retry? After retying a few times it would download.
The exe file would have a slash rather than a period making the file unreadable ,until renamed.
Then the dreaded choose a program to open this type of file would pop up.
The right click context menu also had no open with.
I figured spyware attack.
Went to Doug Knox's site for the exe reg key for Xp Knowing some of the key works in 7- restoring the ability to open executables.
Well the zip file would not open.
Came to Win sevens forum and found a whole bunch of reg keys to fix common file association damage in Win 7.
It downloaded with a slash instead of a dot ...
Renamed it- loaded the reg key- rebooted -still no zip expanding capabilities in windows explorer .
Loaded 7 zip after renaming the file .
Put in a bunch of reg keys- rebooted- still no love with exe or zip files.
Ran services repair from some anti virus site ,still no love.
Repaired the open with context menu with a default reg key found on this great site.
Still had the "choose what program to open this type of file".Doh!
At the end of my skills- I uninstalled IE 10 and va va va voom everything worked.
Came across another computer that day with the exact same issues, uninstalled IE right away this time .
Bang!.. everything worked like it should.
The security was Avg on one and M.S. Security essentials on another ,both were a 64 bit OS .
Just a field experience -I decided to share,as I found no other posts on this issue.
Wanting to save others what I went through,I came here...
To tell my tale and get some feedback that might explain what the heck was going on.
Slim
