Click on tools on the command bar. Go down and click on internet options. Under the general tab, click on tab settings. Change the option so that a new tab will show the "new tab page" instead of the homepage (on a drop down menu thing).

Hello,

When you press Ctrl+N key it opens a new window and not new tab. I have already set it to show a blank page when i open a new tab. I am not pressing Ctrl+T keys. I want new window to be blank upon pressing Ctrl+N keys.

Thanks.

Sorry :D I didn't read your problem carefully. As far as I know, there is no method. That is simply the way the program is made.

well, kikloo, Internet Explorer 8 is not half bad. In their next version, they will even have hardware graphics acceleration and full compliance with web standards. It's just that, I don't think many of us use the control+N for a new window. Most will simply use control + T for new tab. This "issue" would affect only a tiny tiny minority of us :).

I guess my suggestion would be to simply start using the control +T (new tab) and control + W (close tab).
There is a chance there are third party applications that allow you to open new windows onto a tab browsing page.

In the meantime, suggest to microsoft to change the behavior of ie!!! I think they have a program on connect.microsoft.com
Here is an article stating the starting development of ie 9. They mentioned the group on connect.
Neowin.net - Microsoft seeking feedback for Internet Explorer 9

I hope that all goes well and your feedback will be well appreciated!! :)

In IE7 you can add this as speedial (like in FF), you can make it as your homepage, and whenever you'll open a new window, you'll be just one more click away from one of your favorite sites. You can add 9 of them, now I don't now can groups be created as in FF, but anyway, that will be the closest "blank" window you'll get in IE.
cheers

Just wondering, doesn't the internet explorer favorites bar already do that?

Of course they do:D Just another way. And they are pretty much handy actually. Now the guy was/is looking for something that it can't be done, so he can have our suggestions about the closest thing he can get for a "blank" window (I don't now the purpose for it actually, and why not using tabs instead of windows, the multicolor tabs thing is very cool, kind of organized searches, we don't have to wonder around searching what is where):sarc:
cheers:)

Its damn time Microsoft start rebuiling IE from scratch. I've had enough of iexplore.dll.
Now come on. Ctrl-N has ALWAYS been used to open a New instance of the existing browser session - including full history. It does exactly what it is supposed to do and what it has been doing at least since IE5 - and I for one am glad for it. I use Ctrl-N all the time BECAUSE of how it works.

If you want a new blank, IE session, click on the Internet Explorer icon, or use Ctrl-N then click on the your Home Page icon.

Also note that many keyboards are programmable.

It is possible though for you to program a short key (ex: contro, alt+E) to open up a new internet explorer through a shortcut on your desktop or start menu.

Heh yes, Ctrl+N has always opened a duplicate of the current browser session.

The feature of opening a new empty page browser or new home page browser would probably be useful but IE has never done it as far as I know (maybe it did in vita?). Maybe your thinking of FF or some other browser that largely tried copying IE then deviated where it seemed to make sense to (though can be confusing when going back and forth).

I wish Win+I would open IE like Win+E opens Explorer myself. That would be REALLY nice.

I do remember a program from a long time ago that does just that. Its called HotKeyBind. As for its compatibility with windows 7, its compatible with vista, so remember to run it in compatibility mode.
Download HotKeyBind from SourceForge.net
Details about the program here:
Easily Create Windows Shortcut Keys with HotKeyBind

I'm not sure why you want to change these shortcut keys but, I wouldn't mess with them myself....Remember to create system restore points.
