The marriage between Internet Explorer 9, Windows 7’s DirectX 11 and NVIDIA ION is essentially a match made in GPU heaven. Even at the level of Windows Internet Explorer Platform Preview, IE9 has no match in rival browsers when it comes down to hardware acceleration of HTML5 and SVG. Impressive, for netbooks. I look forward to what it will do on a desktop or laptop, especially with the Intel chips that have the GPU integrated with the CPU.

There is nothing extraordinary about Internet Explorer, although we should say that the preview version already scores 55 out of 100 in ACID3 tests, while Internet Explorer 8 scores 20 out of 100.

Microsoft has a big problem: all of Google’s Chrome, Apple’s Safari, and Opera score 100 out of 100 in the ACID3 testing. I’m sure that IE9 will improve but there is a long way until there and this is just not enough.
