Internet Explorer 9.

They are never going to convert me to a regular IE user, unless they make very significant improvement in several areas. Foremost is security. All browsers have some vulnerabilities, but only in IE is there so many, and the rate at which they provide patches so slow. The only reason that IE holds the lions share of the browser market is because it is automatically native to their OS, and too many people do not understand the limitations and risks of using it.

IE8 on Windows 7 in Protected Mode is the safest way to browse the internet. At least much safer than Firefox. The security problems are with IE6 on XP.
I won' say whether FF or IE8 is safer, but to say that IE8 is the safest way to browse the internet is totally wrong. If you want the safest way to browse, Use Opera. I'm not as familiar with FF, but at least they don't keep all of their bugs secret like they do with IE. Generally, you don't know what vulnerabilities that it has, until MS decides to release a patch.

That's where IE8's Protected Mode and DEP features come into action. Even if a hacker managed to take advantage of the vulnerability of the browser, it won't be able to do any damage to your system as long as you keep UAC enabled. I think Chrome also runs in a sandboxed mode like IE8, but Firefox or Opera don't AFAIK.

I stopped using IE as a primary browser around the time Firefox 1.0 was released, but that won't stop me from trying IE9 out when the betas start getting released.

Is that why almost all of the computers I've seen with the fake antivirus malware infection are owned by people who only use IE8

But I am yet to see a system running Windows 7/Vista and IE8 in protected mode getting infected with any fake antivirus/malware.

No...it is because everyone targets IE because of the fact it is number 1...

You people clamoring here about how secure your other browsers are-are going to get a rude awakening. Firefox is gaining ground in the market and malware writers are taking notice. I would bet my last dollar that in 2-3 years firefox will be slammed with exploits: chrome is next.

...and one other thing. IE9 is going to be the IE version that renders DX...IE8 doesn't
