Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

I have internet explorer 9 beta. Recently did a restore because windows wouldn't load. Now all of a sudden I can not log into any website (i.e. facebook, gmail etc.) I get the error message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage."

It doesn't matter where I'm trying to log into on the internet that page comes up whenever I try. I've tried resetting the browser back to default and that didn't work. I've tried a virus scan, and malware scan and nothing comes up. Here is my HJT log:

I've done searches on this and tried various solutions and nothing is working. Internet Explorer 9 is in compatability mode as well. I tried taking it out of compatability mode to see if that fixed it and nothing.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

For a test, disable your AV program including the firewall. Maybe it is blocking it. But that should only be a quick test - do not operate normally in this mode.

That does nothing. Still come up with the same error message. As a note Windows Security Esssentials won't update either. I get an error message when trying to update it as well.

When trying to update Microsoft Security Essentials this is the error I get. Not sure if this is related to Internet Explorer or not.

Virus and Spyware definitions update failed

Microsoft Security Essentials wasn't able to check for virus & spyware definitions updates. Make sure your computer is connected to the internet and try again.

Any thoughts. Is this related?

Hmm, that looks pretty messy. I would not know where to start. In cases like that I always set back to an earlier image - but you probably did not image your system. Maybe an earlier system restore point can help. Even a reinstall will probably faster than debugging that mess.

I did a system restore point last night because I had a windows error that prevented me from even getting into safe mode.

Have you eliminated any problem external to your PC (router, ISP failure, bad connection to router)? Also, the MSE update problem is related to your not being able to access the internet. What happens if you try your email program? Can you ping google.com?

Another idea: Try with Internet Explorer (no add-ons). You find that in All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Maybe one of your add-ons keeps you from accessing the webpages. If that works, you can go thru the add-ons one by one.
