internet explorer does not work

I have wondows 7 Ultimate running on HP Envy 17, 64bit system. For last couple of years Internet explore did not work on my system. I did not worry about it as I was using chrome and/or firefox. But NOW, I want to get my internet explorer to work. I tried to update to IE11, Tried to uninstall and reinstal. Nothing works. I get following error when I try to start IE : "internet explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you is a solution is available." I can not close the window, except by rebooting the system.
I new to the forum and this could be a old problem.
So, please, help me

With all of the Windows 7 versions that are available for download, I'd grab one and get me a nice clean install of Windows 7.


Then reinstall all my software and data files.
Windows (?) is volatile enough that at least once a year I have to re-install it on my own PC. It's really not all that big of a deal.


Try it, you may just like it!
