Internet Speed Upgrade

Earlier in the week, I upgraded my Internet Speed. I have AT&T as my ISP. Earlier I was getting 7 mbps download and now I am getting 30. I have checked it myself with Speed Test. I did this because we get streaming TV at home and ditched satellite. == The web browser (Google) opens immediately but the page seems to take five or six seconds to load. I might be expecting too much, but is this normal or should the page be opening quicker?

I would suspect that is OK. I have 100Mb/sec cable service and some pages take "forever" and others open quickly.

Thanks for the reply. It makes me feel better. I was expecting a difference like when I went a spinner to a SSD.

If it's video page it will have to download some video before it can start specially if it's HD

You'll only see an improvement if the bottleneck was your own connection speed. Actual load times depend on other factors too, like your browser and computer speed, how well designed is the site is (tons of JavaScript slow down any page and doesn't really depends too much on link speed) or even site load. Most of those aren't even under your control.
I still think 5 seconds to load a website is pretty well already. But if you want to improve it, you need to dig why it's taking that much and even if it's something that you can affect somehow or it's outside your realm.

Hi bigmck -

Just chiming in here. That connect speed is relatively low, but Google should pop-up relatively quickly.
What browser are you using? I like Mozilla Firefox with Hardware Acceleration enabled.

Please clear your entire browser cache and then prefetch. Go to the C:\windows\temp directory and do the same.
Since you have an SSD, you might consider running the TRIM command on it and increasing your Virtual Memory size.

Reboot your system after that.

Try using different DNS. I used to have a 3mbps connection but google.com opens quick enough

Well, I discovered my problem. The AT&T guy that was out to do the upgrade work on the line etc, made some changes to the software on my PC. Yesterday, I decided to delete what he did and reinstall the Internet Connection the way it was before he came. I did that and things are quick again. == RoasterMen, one of the articles i read online yesterday mentioned changing the DNS and two people said it fixed things great. I could not find how to do that, but did try. If there is an easy way to explain that or a link, I would appreciate it. Thanks,
