Is High Performance Power Plan safe?

I was looking through the control panel because I was bored and found this option for high performance power plan. I thought it was going to be good but my Dad said that he does not trust it or something like that. He said that he does not know if it will do something to the chips and burn them up causing my computer to stop work. I would like to know if it is safe for me to put it to that option and not have my chips to burn up. Is it safe? Also, will it help with the lag in some games?

It is safe but your computer will work harder when it doesn't need to. For example running the processor at 100% when its not required. And no it won't actually help your gaming.

I create custom power plans instead of using the default options in order to keep the turn off display from turning off after 20 minutes. The power plan is still set with the high performance theme while no 100% cpu activity is seen. In fact the highest seen on the quad core cpu has been only upto 33% when running multiple installations consecutively during the initiall setup on the new build in use.

For portables laptops, networks then you work with a power saving plan or create your own energy saver in order to conserve on battery power. If you tend to leave your machine unattended for lengthy periods then you would allow the display off after so many minutes if not seeing a screensaver in use on desktops.

Sleep mode or Hibernate are for overnight or away for the day situations there when not wanting a full shutdown.

On a high perf plan, your processor will run at max clock speed all the time, irrespective of the actual workload. As a result, your machine will run hotter and you need to have better cooling/ ventilation in place. On balanced and power-saver plans, the cpu will downclock as per demand.

For playing games and other cpu intensive work, high perf plan makes sense. For the regular email/ word processing though, a balanced plan will do just fine. You can switch easily between plans.

What I meant to say with the processor working at 100% I mean how fast and how much electricity it requires to run.

so Night Hawk, you say that even on high performance it is still not at 100%? Is having it at 100% dangerous? If it is fine, then how do I do that since I need my games to stop lagging so much but have it so that my computer won't burn up like my previous one. Anyway how do I do that? Is 100% safe?

With a good load on the cpu at present the cpu is seeing 40C as a high temp which I have been monitoring closely since the need for a change of hsf came up. The first had to replaced when finding one side was actually resting on two out of the four dimms total! Try 71C for a temp!

The screen of the taskmanager here was just made since an image of one of the storage drives with a quite a bit of files on it is being created by Acronis for restoration later tonight showing that the cpu is bearly even reaching the 30% mark at peaks. And that's with the custom high performance minded plan in use here.

its not dangerous unless ur having temp problems and wat the other guy said is ur cpu will be 100% is incorrect

the clock speed will be 100% of watever its clocked at. so when u turn it to balanced it will underclock the cpu so it uses less energy and makes less heat. when u run a program or game for instance the clock speed will raise back to stock but when pc is idle it downclocks and lowers voltage to save energy and lower heat

Most newer boards now see some form of smart cpu monitoring even when you have a cpu oced in order to keep it from cooking on you when something is wrong. When running full bore or simply getting too hot the overheat protection is another added protection that will shut everything down when working properly again another protection against hardware damage.

Another screen was made earlier while transferrring a large volume of files between different drives for temp storage while the tuner card was also in use during a live composite feed with a look at the performance monitor. You see less tasking on the cpu activity will all that going on then with the previous image posted.
