Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E (i bought october 2008 so it doesn't fall within Sony's "Date requirements" to run windows 7) and i was running Vista 32 bit. I have installed Windows 7 but all my standard software has dissapeared i.e. Arcsoft Web Companion, all Sony programs such as media centre etc, adobe, etc.

I rang sony and they said all the programs mentioned are only supposed to run with Vista unless the laptop falls within their date requirement (i think it 27th June 2009 to current). Therefore i cannot install any of their programs on my Windows 7.

I don't really mind all the lost programs, but one program which i used often was the Arcosoft Web companion. Is there any similar program that i could download so that i can use my?

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks

If there is a freebie (or a trial) available, these guys would probably either know about it or be able to point you in the right direction.
I am not personally familiar with the arcsoft web companion, but you can try searching the following outstanding website for a solution:

I guess Sony didn't provide you with any discs that have your applications?

No sony provided me with no discs. I made some recovery discs but when i boot of them it says something along the lines of "not compatible with this operation system". I love windows 7 though but everything else is annoying.

Before you installed W7 you should have tried to back up these apps to external media, but many companies like Sony don't make that particularly easy. It's possible that some of the apps designed for later models that are 7 compatible might work on your machine running 7. You would just have to try and find them to download from Sony's support site, (if they make such stuff available) and give it a try.

What does the program you want do anyway? Hard to give advice about a possible substitute without knowing that.

Here's a list of stuff available for download on the Arcsoft web site:
http://www.arcsoft.com/public/download_group.asp?DlType=0

I would try and see if you can download a copy for your machine from Sony's support site and see if it will run properly in compatibility mode for Vista. When you install the program, W7 should recognize that it's not W7 compatible and offer to reinstall it for you in the appropriate "compatibility mode." However, it still may not function as well as you are used to.

If that doesn't work, then attempting to install a later version from Sony, if available would be a possibility, if it will even install on your machine. Otherwise, you need to look for other apps that offer similar functionality.

I have backed all my programs on an external drive. Surely they wouldn't work though?

The webcam software is actually just a program that i used to make videos using my webcam.

Also the scrolling with my touchpad issue still remains. On vista i had a touchpad setting option where i could choose what i would my touchpad to do, whereas on Windows 7 i can't seem to find that settings.

Sorry for the amount of problems im listing lol.
