Hello all. I was reading up on the history of the "\" character in regards to directory separation and the environmental variable SWITCHAR in the config.sys file came up as a solution to change the option switch character from / to what ever you wanted. The information I was reading was really old and was about the dos / win 9x variety of windows. Is there a modern option to do this?

What exactly are you trying to do and why?
The "/" and "/" are two different characters used for entirely different purposes.

What I am trying or hoping I am able to do is change the symbol for option switches on the command line...
eg:
Code:
dir /A /Q /P C:\WINDOWS
Will return the contents of the windows directory with the extended file attributes, file ownership information and pauses after it displays one full page on the virtual console.

What I want to be able to do is something like this

Code:
dir -A -Q -P C:/WINDOWS
I read online that there was an environmental variable SWITCHCHAR which could be changed to allow an user to change the switch to what even choice he would want. That was the 16bit windows / dos era when it was removed for some reason. I was hoping to find out if something like that functionality exists in the NT line of windows.
