Is it safe to delete these window folders?

Currently running out of room on my primary drive and need to do a little house keeping (delete some files). I noticed two folders labeled "Windows.old" and "Windows.old.000". Is it safe to delete these two folders?

Those folders are the result of upgrading to Windows 7 and contain the prior OS. If you are sure that you do not need to refer to them they can be deleted. Do not just go and try to delete, do so from disc cleanup, ticking the box include system files.
