Depends on who you ask. Seems to be split 50/50. Im not a fan. I just tried it again after many years and it lasted less than a day on my machine

It's not compatible yet!

I know, I own a 3 user license and the Heuristic driver fails under Win7.
On Vista it works perfectly.

Symantec promised to fix it when Win7 is released.

I wrote them a mail to tell them I find that very disappointing, since a lot of people already have the final through technet.
No response yet.

I do think 2009 version is brilliant.

Did a test with NOD32 yesterday.
What a horrible AV.

Ken? you had too much wine? :D
You are adressing me, but I am not the OP. :D
Plus I already own 2009. :D

Norton 2009 is not in beta.
It's heuristic driver is presently not Win7 compatible.
It does work but without heuristic.

Norton 2010 is in beta, but it works ok under Win7.
But I don't detect any new features compared to 2009

I believe they finally released a version the last week or so that's supposed to be compatible. However, they were having lots of problems with people upgrading to it and were supposed to be issuing yet another new patch last I read. (Not aware of the heuristic driver issue one way or the other.)

They were having so many problems during the beta and RC phases I personally bailed on my Norton subscription a long time ago and moved to ESET Smart Security instead and haven't looked back. Just bummed the Norton subscription is ticking away unused.

Suppose by the time Windows 7 is formally released they might have their act together. I was pretty happy with NIS on Vista.

NIS on Vista was best suite I ever had.
I am very disappointed Symantec is waiting till october release to come up with a patch.
I will have lost 4 months of my subscription.

Beta 2010 is doing a very good job though, and it's only a beta.

There is a so called 2009 beta for Win7, but what's the point if you can use the 2010 beta?

Hey

I didnt specify what norton was still in beta, only that it is. I was actually trying to give NIS a break by saying it might improve on rollout. We will see. Every one has their own favorites.

Title of that thread is misleading.
Norton 2009 products do not work properly with win7.

Symantec made a temporary 2009 beta that is compatible, but it is in beta, and you have to reactivate it every 14 days.

Greetz
Nope, about a week ago they released a update.
My friend is using Norton antivirus 2009 serial on windows 7 on his computer without a problem. He used the same serial that he used when he had windows Vista. No problems.
I think your thinking about 2010 - Were you haft to reactivate it every 14 days. Lol!

I visited norton website yesterday, no news about any update.
There was a statement that norton product are compatible, but if you click on the link you are directed to 2010 beta.

Further more as a subscriber I should get an email when the update is released.

I will go to norton website now and check again.

Ok, how typical.

Update is not yet available for Dutch version.
That's why I couldn't find it, nor got any message.

By the way.
There seem to be quite a few issues with that patch, so I will stay with 2010 beta for a while.
Has been very stable.

I just did a full scan.
It took only 1hr and 36min. vs 5hr and 30min that NOD 4 took.
Norton found the 5 trojans I planted just like NOD 4 did.

But it found another 8 threats I didn't know of (all in rar files), and NOD didn't find.

So much for Virus Bulletin's reliability.

Greetz

Edit: forgot to mention Norton used 30% to 50% CPU allowing me to work, vs NOD crippling my PC at 90% to 100% CPU.

I have NIS 2009 installed on both win 7 rtm pc's at home and have zero issues with it. No errors in event logs and even their Sonar thingy seems to be at 100%.

Edit- version is 16.7.2.10

Good to hear.

From what I've seen in my brief visit to the norton forum, is that a lot of people were having problems with the patch.
But it's impossible to say how many people don't have issues because they won't complain on the forum. :D
