Is there any software that's compatible with Windows 7 but not 8?

Sometimes, I see people refusing to upgrade from Windows 7 (or even from Windows XP) because there are applications that wouldn't work on newer versions of Windows (8, 8.1, 10)... but can anyone give me examples of such applications?

Applications that simply won't install, not even with a workaround.

When any new OS is introduced there will always be some software that will not run with the new OS. It has always been this way. Often there will be some way to make it work but not always. Even the most trivial of changes including optimizations and even bug fixes can break applications not prepared for the change. Often this is due to software making invalid assumptions about the environment in which it is running. This is often a problem with games. The only way Microsoft could guarantee 100% compatibility would be to make absolutely no changes. That would preclude all OS upgrades.

I have no examples.

On the other hand there are many well written programs from Windows 95 days that still run on 64 bit Windows 10 with no compatibility settings of any kind.

In addition to what LMiller7 has said, most popular software programs will usually bring out an update or a new version to suit the latest Windows OS version.

It's mostly custom made software written by inexperienced developers.
