Is there something wrong with download speeds Comcast?

Im using Comcast internet and I have the 22 download mb speed package

Here is my Speedtest result which to me are impressive.



However when I use newsgroups using astraweb with 20 connections my maximum speeds are topping out at 2831.32 KB/s

Im using SABNZB 4.11 for the downloads and I have my firewall setup correctly. I also hate to admit that im not 100% sure what 2831.32 KB/s translates into for MB/s I think its around 3mb!??

Can anyone help me out and let me know if I should be getting faster speeds and what I might be able to do about it!

Not really a win 7 question but who cares. there are several ways to improve your downlaods but the first way I would go with is one of the top news readers. I happen to use Newsbin Pro, but also use two others on other machines. I have 1 down with newshosting (an astraweb user) I get 10Mb down with 10 connections. have you ever done a traceroute from your machine to astraweb? (you can get a traceroute client for trial at ping probrobe.com) there are several ways to improve hig latency toute but dealing with that makes your head explode. try a new newsreader client, do a traceroute, and let me know I have TONS of experience with usenet.

Ok, you have 22 megabit per second internet access. Straight up math with no overhead works out to 22,000,000 / 8 bits to 1 byte = 2,750,000 bytes per second. So, roughly 2.7 megabytes per second.

Therefore, if you are getting 2.8 megabytes per second..you are pretty much maxing out your connection and getting exactly what you are paying for.

I've got service advertised at speeds up to 15Mb/s and I probably get around 12Mb/s which seems to max out around 1.1-1.3 megabytes per second.

ok thanks pparks1 appreciate it however when I had the 16gb speeds I was getting the same speeds. So I was thinking i should be improving on that.!

It all depends upon the news server that you are connecting to. These days, people have such fast connections at home that it's not all that hard to overwhelm the server on the other end. And companies like Comcast do use Speedburst technology, which is why your test came back at 38megabits per second. But over a file of any size..you wouldn't sustain that bandwidth.

I don't think 3 megabytes per second is anything to complain about.
