So I have been planning out what I want to get for parts for my new gaming rig, please give feedback. Thanks :D

  • Mobo - MSI P67A-GD55 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

  • CPU - Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor (I plan on OCing to at least 4.2GHz)

  • GPU - EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1572-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

  • RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory

  • PSU - COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Gold Series RS800-80GAD3-US 800W ATX 12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

  • Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

  • CPU Fan/Heatsink - ZALMAN CNPS9500 AT 2 Ball CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink

  • COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Advanced RC-932-KKN5-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Compucase Case with USB 3.0 and Black Interior
Now this is what I found to be a semi-budget build and the parts have received were good feedback, these are all located on newegg in case you are interested in the specs. But I would just like some feedback on what I hope to be my new gaming rig.
Thanks!

Looks great mate.

2 things I'd change though:

PSU: While that Cooler Master PSU looks quite good, for that price you could get yourself a top notch fully modular beefy PSU like the Seasonic X750W.

CPU Cooler: Again, same thing applies, why pay ~$40 bucks for a ZALMAN cooler when for practically the same price, you could get yourself the Thermaltake Frío, considered by many to be the best air cooler out there.

Nice- but you should check out msi forums- the gskills and or rip jaws are the most trouble memory for msi mobos. Folks might argue- I am just letting you know. You can check it out for your self. You can flip through the threads and see what other gear folks are using on same or like mobos.. And msi would be the best place to ask questions about your set up if you are going msi mobo..>

http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=ce3a4abb3f4fea70c244b230704839d8&board=54.0

Some mobos do not like some memory and for msi mobos that is rip jaws or mostly anyway. You should pick some corsair or crucial memory for it. For asus mobos I think the most trouble memory is ocz.

I would have to read more on that mobo but I think I would go with this memory and is great over clocking memory and pretty much will stay at 1.5v and runs at T1..>

Crucial CT2KIT51264BA1339

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148347&Tpk=CT2KIT51264BA1339

A better psu would be a corsair tx750 or tx 850. Better cpu coolers might be a corsair a50 or cooler master 212. And get some ac mx2 or mx3 for thermal compound. I like the corsair a50 and use it my self but for the money and over clocking on air it is maybe no better on earth than either or the cooler master 212 and its only 35 bucks- both was less than 30 bucks for a long long time- seems price has gone up tho. Some coolers are way bigger and more heavy but cool lil better if any. With that case and some mx2 or mx3 or maybe gelid gc2 or gelid gc3 you can get your over clock up to or better than 5gigs and it run cool for less than 40 bucks. Both the mx2-3 or gelid is a better product than ac5 in every way.

It has been well known for a long time and for gaming and or over clocking a large single rail non modular psu is better than multi rail modular psu's. Me self I do not like or trust wet cool stuff and is a lot more maintenance and can spark up and ruin everything if something goes wrong or starts to leak etc. Do as you like tho- it is your system.

The tx 750 has a 140mm fan and 4x 2+6 pin pcie connectors and the +12v is 60 amps on a single rail and 5 year warranty for about 100 bucks.

That mobo has 2x 16x vid slots and can do sli or cross fire- if you might think about that down the road you might care to go tx 850 or more on the psu. This tx950 smokes that seasonic and your coolermaster and cost less too.. You can not have a over powered psu- you can have a under powered psu.. You buy best you can for your budget and always think about future proofing.. Also the more powerful the psu the less hard it has to run and less heat and less fan speed- lasts longer and more quite too.>

6x 2+6 pin pcie- +12v 78 amps single rail- 140mm fan- 5 year warranty. Corsair is of the top psu's on earth.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139013

The p67 came out about 2 weeks after I built mine and my buds rigs- but the first mobos had probs- had I been maybe 3 months later shopping- I probly would have picked the same mobo and cpu as you- and for the sataIII and usb3 and realtek lan and sound and sil able with 2x 16x slots. The sandy bridge is said a over clocking monster- my p55 will smoke any and all amd systems out and at same price- it is no contest at all with the sandy bridge and again at the same price as the p55 or am3.That is at stock or oc- other than maybe a few programs that can use more than 4 cores or the 1 game dirt2- Id guess Sandy Bridge and dirt2 no contest- and the intels p55-67 can smoke am3 even in some programs that do use more than 4 cores. Gaming it is no contest or versus amd am3 6 core cpu's. That sandy smokes the am3 6 core in bench after bench- period.

Looking good. See ya..

This +1

I was actually watching a video review about coolers yesterday. And for what its worth:

From thier conclusion,
The V8 was the best with the Frio being a very close 2nd. (they were very, very close within 1-2C of each other loaded stock and OC)

Overall, the H70 was the winner. But they said considering the price difference, and the fact it wasnt that much better over the V8, the would give the V8 the winner for that reason.

Although thats just 1 review, others may come to a different conclusion.

I would take a look at one of these PSUs.
650W:
Newegg.com - SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold ((SS-650KM Active PFC F3)) 650W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 650W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

750W:
Newegg.com - SeaSonic X750 Gold 750W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91 SLI Ready 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

Newegg.com - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply

Honestly, I think either brand in the 650W variety will be plenty of power. These pack more of a punch than it would seem.
Theres really not much need to go larger unless you plan on SLI/X-Fire in the future.

Maybe the 750 for a bit of extra headroom.

Overall, good looking gaming rig.

It is hard to find head to head frio a50 212. the a50 and 212 is near same- but I did see a test where the frio beats the a50 by like 8f. I think the frio is 2 fan and it does cost more. Being cooling and as best you can get for the price. $10 or so more bucks for 8f cooler is not bad.

So maybe the frio is the better choice. 10 bucks would not break ya I am sure.. Less heat better the oc or performance. You could maybe shop around and get a better price on the cooler.

I have seen benches where folks are getting 5 gigs on that cpu and very cool with the 212.

Have fun..

I will have to disagree here. Yes, I had trouble with OCZ memory on my Asus board, but I was using OCZ Platinum with an AMD BE CPU. I got some OCZ BE memory and it's been running PERFECTLY since. In fact, I bought a 4 GB upgrade when I bought the parts for my dad's system; also an AMD BE with Asus MB and OCZ BE memory.

FWIW though, OCZ has backed out of the memory market and is focusing on the SSD market.

That is fine mlevy.

It is folks that use and stand by rip jaws on msi mobos too- it does not change the fact and at msi forums more probs or complaints and the forums recommend other memory other than rip jaws. And geil makes other memory. I did not say all geils but maybe so.

And over the years and on many sites talking asus mobos you have more probs with ocz memory. I have no horse in the race I am not getting anything for saying so it is accumulated data from over the years. Might some ocz be less a prob maybe so- might others with said prob mem you said you have work on same mobo or other asus mobos maybe so. The facts remain the same. Not all mobos or brands in general like all memory or brands in general.

To think about it its pretty comical because most dims use say samsung ic's- same ics over the different brands of mem sold. You would think all mem is the same. Maybe the lil code the mobos read to identify the memory has something to do with it too. Ha ha maybe asus and ocz are at war or something a asus mobo see it has ocz mem and has fits who knows.

All my memory has been ocz and for my abit mobos- Was thinking about it for this mobo- just folks at msi said this mem is better for this mobo and told me to avoid rip jaws. I have 1 and 2gig ddr plats and 2 and 4gig ddr2 plats. Used corsairs in my buds abit rig. 1 and 2gig ddr All 2 stix kits.

Any way. I am glad you have a working system and happy with it. Take care.

:O gee thanks guys! I posted the same question on another forums and all they said was OMG IM JEALOUZ haha so thanks guys and if you have more suggestions it would be great if you left them here and thanks so much about the input on the cooler, ram, and psu I'll be sure to look in to those more :D
Oh, and one quick question on the side, I am stuck between buying an LED-LCD or LCD monitor. Here are the two I've been looking at, thanks for the help :D

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236117

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236049

These aren't completely necessary right now, I'm just focusing on getting a new rig but it would be great to hear some input on LED-LCD vs LCD.
And also, I've heard that buying everything at once for a new rig is the way to go, but are there any parts that really don't have much of a chance of really changing in the next few months? Like the PSU or case, things like that.

Thanks once again, you guys are a big help!

First welcome- all of us here are glad to help. We hope you love your new rig and it serves you well and fun gaming.

Second- I think most all would agree the led is far better and if same price or even if the led cost a lil more you will be more happy with it and or for gaming any way. If just normal desk top use it is other type panels said better and better view angles and normally will cost more. This is from reading and gaming friends of mine that have led types and have owned others crt and lcd and my own led too.

The led's are said last longer than lcd and run less heat and less heavy and look pretty sweet being more thin too. For gaming 2ms is best and the extra high contrast is good too- better blacks even better colors because no yellow light from the lcd lights or can better see changes in darker colors. And led is said better at displaying text- more easy on the eyes versus lcd. The list goes on and on.

Again a gaming monitor and just a desk top or pro monitor are 2- 3 different things. Other type panels and slower are better at displaying text but not as good at gaming and can have ghosting. The better all around would be the led of the 2

Also ASUS makes some great monitors you may notice or on monitors that have comments- if comments account for number of sales- ASUS sells more than all the others together and normally cost less too. Some folks may say other brands- but normally cost more and not really a lot better not to the normal eye or for most folks any way. I love my asus led. That is a nice 1 and more contrast than mine even. Ha ha I think mine is more pretty. You should enjoy that- cost is good too.

I had worried on view angles and never had a lcd led before had always had crt. I have no real probs with view angles even sitting off to the side some in another chair watching movies- most of the time you will be at your desk in front of it any way. I love my led asus and is way larger than my 19" crt. My crt was more versatile I could easy change res and always a great picture and could change hrz if needed- but I like my wide screen led more.

I have no need for the cam or speakers. Some comments not so good on those 2 parts of the monitor. Folks love the display part tho.

My bud I share this house with got a new imac with sweet wide screen and the better view angles but is more slow is 21" We was jealous that large great looking screen. I do not like the shinny glass on it tho. The view angles are sweet. But mine has more contrast. In normal use I think mine is as good or sitting in front of it any way- certainly if gaming and being faster. I would be stupid to say mine is better tho. Near half the cost of his imac is the monitor. I am very happy with my 200 dollar asus.

I think that led will make ya happy and more so than the lcd of the 2 you picked out.. 3 year warranty too- good to go.

Enjoy man- good luck..

GAMING is my passion!
I say go with the LED one, I just bought myself a Acer s231HLbid and love it.
Newegg.com - Acer S231HLbid Black 23" 5ms HDMI LED-Backlight LCD monitor Slim Design 250 cd/m2 ACM 12,000,000:1 (1000:1)

I read a lot of the comments about the blue being too bright, but I have yet to see that issue on my new build. I use the machine for a lot of gaming and also work when I get those nice "work from home days" when the kids are sick.

You need to look at it this way, if you are going to be looking at it day in and out by the one you think will be easier on your eyes and you can keep running for a long time.
