Is this a PSU problem?

I was able to use my computer last night, did a normal shut down.

I woke up this morning and there as a light on the front of my tower (but I remember shutting it down, so I thought that was weird)

I tried to boot up the computer and the cpu fan and the back tower fan turned on and immediate turned off. I flipped the power in the back left it off for a few sec and flipped it again then I heard a high pitched sound (very faint) coming from the PSU. I hit the power button the front of the tower again and same thing, the cpu fan and the fan in back turns on but nothing more.

I've tried to take a volt meter to the 24 pins on the psu, but either my terminals aren't skinny enough to touch the connector pin or I'm not getting any reading off the psu (0 volts on ALL of the pins--that can't be right?).


How likely is this a psu issue?





My PSU is a Corsair CX600 the warranty ended 6 months ago

Sure sounds like it.

Try it and let us know what you find.

One note: do not open up the power supply to test anything. There is nothing you can repair inside and the capacitors hold enough voltage to injure or kill you.
