Is Win 7 getting slower?

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you wish, but recently, all of my Win 7 machines seem to be behaving strangely. Simple tasks seem to hang the computer for a period of time and there is excessive disk activity. Is MS providing "updates" that cause these misbehaviors?

No - my machine is not infected. I have my standard AV and I have also checked with MalWareBytes and SpyBot S&D. I have also removed all updates related to Win 10 and have confirmed this using GWX Control Panel.

I have not noticed anything as well, are your systems using ssd's as their OS drives and what is using your disk in Resource Monitor? Try looking for the excessive disk usage with this from Microsoft. right click the columns and then go to the process disk tab and enable them all and then see if one is super excessive that is in line with Resource Monitor's findings.

Yep resource monitor can be a useful tool to see what's going on
Usual cause is svchost.exe either eating up cpu or memory

I use also RealTemp to see easily on my taskbar the temperature so if things seem slow usually the temps will fluctuate or increase
That will give a clue when to look at resource monitor to see the offenders

But no if svchost is not acting up then windows is fast.

Yup, and once you find out it is svchost then Process Explorer can show you (mouse over process) what services that current svchost is using and help find the culprit service or task. It's a great tool along with Autoruns.

Here's a good example one of my computers hasn't got the May updates yet and temp was sitting at 36c for a while now increased
And yes our friend svchost is in operation

Yeah I don't like how it wont show you what that process is for besides the the user and area its running. I use this one for work daily because it can show me this kind of deep info. It's a lifesaver sometimes and has sped up our whole workflow for troubleshooting.

Yea that is pretty cool
I pretty much know which process windows updates churning calling the home planet

On a dual core processor you'd feel this process a lot more than on a quad.. core which this one is
It's jumping from 39c to 46c
So it's just a matter of how long it will take to bring up the updates now

On a good day updates come up with only a short interruption in performance from svchost
Now the fun part installing them after making a system image which I already did yesterday

Yeah i'm finding my self imaging pretty much every time before doing them now. Tis is life.

Yep I'm restoring back now,
On restart got a stuck black screen so I had to shut down with the power button and restart :/

Everything say installed... but it sure is not normal for it to happen like that ctrl+alt+delete... did nothing
Back to the drawing board :mad2:
But a prime example of why we need system images now days

I hate to break it to you, but everything in this universe gets slower (and older) over time. Second law of thermodynamics, aka entropy. Once you accept this, life can be easier.

I find if I keep the junk out of my computers and control Startup and Non Microsoft services my system run as quick as always on Windows 7.
