Issue with Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server



dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some


also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

another thought is this happen to me the other day also check this

make sure that when you connect to the network that it gettings a setting private or work

it might be that windows does not know what to do with the network connection and has blocked every thing in the firewall settings

I have the same wireless adapter in my laptop (Asus F8Va) and Windows 7 RC x64 installed too.

At first everything was working fine, i.e. I got connected at startup. Now I see this "limited connectivity" message just like turkeymanwill. Sometimes disconnecting and connecting again helps and sometimes it just starts working after a few minutes. Very weird. My router is fine, as other computers connect with no problems.

At first I thought, that this is a result of a recent Windows 7 update as some people were suggesting on other forums, but uninstalling updates didn't help. Also, I specifically installed Ubuntu to check if this is really an OS issue. And in Ubuntu I get connected, but no internet. Not even after I retry to connect, nor after a few minutes of waiting. But when I connect a LAN cable from router to my laptop, Internet works perfectly!

These problems began about a week ago, just when it got pretty hot at where I live (33° C). I know WiFi adapters tend to get pretty hot. And it's not cool in Egypt either

So, could this be a WiFi adapter issue?

I am sure

I am sure it is a Wifi adapter issue, or at least a communication issue between 7 and the adapter because other computers can connect.

Not really a solution, but...

I decided to give it a try once again, deleted the LAN connection in Ubuntu and re-checked the WiFi settings. And it worked! It also worked right after the restart in Ubuntu, time and again.

But it's still the same story with Windows 7 (I never had this issue in Windows Vista, BTW). So maybe Windows 7 indeed has some serious WiFi issues. I noticed that you get "limited access" message after restart, and no matter what you do, internet doesn't work. Until Windows initiates second attempt to connect on its own (you can see a rotating circle over the wireless icon in the system tray at this moment) and ultimately succeeds. So, patience helps to deal with the issue and to wait for the fix from Microsoft

I have a similar problem with that Intel 5100 adapter and Win 7.
My PC tells me i'm connected, sometimes with limited connectivity, and seems to work about OK if within 3 to 5 meters from the wirless router... I've tried updating to the latest driver from Intel (newer than the one on Dell Support), tried re-installing a few times, but no improvement whatsoever.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
