I'm having an odd issue wherein pressing a single key will immediately fill the entire allowable space with that key press.
For example, pressing the "a" key will fill, immediately, the entire allowable space with "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". Similarly pressing backspace will immediately remove everything. Note the use of the word "immediately". It does not sequentially fill the space with the key input, the way it might if you held down a key, but rather upon pressing a key the text field is simply filled with that key all at once (to the best of my ability to detect anyways).
As a result, I am unable to log on to my Windows 7 desktop computer. The above was confirmed using the reset password fields.
At first I thought this was a keyboard issue, so I shutdown the computer, unplugged the keyboard, booted it back up (without a keyboard plugged in) and turned on the on-screen keyboard to try to type in my password. The problem persists.
Additionally, the computer will enter sleep mode within a minute of being left untouched (maybe 20-25 seconds by my count). You can probably guess that I did not set it to do so.
This computer is used by my parents and sibling, so I don't know what they might have done to cause any such issue. I verified that everything is plugged in as it should be, and that no unusual additions have been plugged in.
My sister was the last one to use the computer before the problem started. By her account:
She was trying to watch something on Netflix but it would not load. She attempted to restart the browser a few times and eventually nothing would load. At no point did she try to type anything, so she did not notice if the key input issue was there at that time. She then restarted the computer, and found herself unable to log in due to the above key input issue.
