Hi,

I'll try to be succinct as possible.

System Information:

http://s18.postimg.org/mooss4pg9/System_Information_Indepth.jpg

http://s28.postimg.org/c7n1rkmr1/Page_1_Graphics_Information.jpg

I was having some issues with my Dell i5 580 tower:

http://www.sevenforums.com/pc-custom-builds-overclocking/343935-help-advice-sought-overhauling-noisy-dell-inspiron-580-mt.html

& thanks to the advice I stuck my finger in the fan of the graphics card and lo and behold the noise ceased.

So I enquired:

http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/344842-gpu-advice-replacing-ati-radeon-hd-5450-dell-0c2kjt-mainboard.html

& posted here and elsewhere, received advice and consequently I bought:
PSU:
http://www.bequiet.com/en/powersupply/390
http://www.ebuyer.com/291724-be-quiet-straight-power-400w-fully-wired-80-gold-power-supply-bn190
&
GPU
http://www.ebuyer.com/620620-sapphire-r7-240-1gb-ddr3-vga-dvi-hdmi-pci-e-graphics-card-11216-11-20g

So having successfully fitted the PSU & GPU, I couldn't believe my luck things were going so well, what transpired is on powering up for the first time everything was big and bland as I guessed might be expected.

So I ran the installation disc. The install performs and completes with errors yet when I again rebooted I got what I had before, everything sized and adjusted correctly through a AV receiver in windows Nero on my 55 inch LED TV - correct desktop etc.

Notification on install – ‘Application Install: install package failure!’

The errors made me concerned things weren’t as they should be so I opened the Catalyst Control Centre and all that is available/provided is basic information within two tabs – Graphic Software and Graphics Hardware. There aren’t any options to configure resolution or what have you.

Then I discovered the installation disc had replaced my IE9 with IE11 which annoyed me no end. The damnedest thing is IE11 will not allow me to import my favourites – it states ‘Invalid File Path’ (?) Utterly useless and infuriately having tried all manner of workarounds. As yet I haven’t uninstalled IE11 and re-installed IE9 because I am unsure whether this might be detrimental to the graphics configuration at present. Naïve, maybe, but why would running the installation disc change the IE on my system?

So I went to the AMD website, downloaded and installed what I presumed would be the complete and up-to-date driver/software suite and again I received errors. No appreciable changes but for a rather useless piece of software called AMD Gaming Evolved which doesn’t seem to have any function what-so-ever. Haven’t uninstalled yet but want to.

Again - Notification on install – ‘Application Install: install package failure!’

Thereafter I did a Windows Update (windows SP1) which normally I would never do having found on each past occasion having done so causes more problems than any appreciable benefit.

After I re-ran the installation disc and here linked below is the final error report:

http://s9.postimg.org/gkulf4e2n/AMD_Catalyst_log_Installation_Failure_4_1.jpg

http://s17.postimg.org/qmhhmt5cf/AMD_Catalyst_log_Installation_Failure_4_2.jpg

The tower case is a little small so after installing the PSU with its thick cables the space has become restricted and through Speccy I am seeing some fluctuations in temperature from the Low 30’s to the low 50’s for the CPU. (Please see as above: http://www.sevenforums.com/pc-custom-builds-overclocking/343935-help-advice-sought-overhauling-noisy-dell-inspiron-580-mt.html) Should I be concerned and if so what do you recommend I should do?

Another thing is Speccy isn’t showing any temperature reading for the AMD Radeon R7 200 – is this normal / a good thing or not?

I would be extremely grateful for any advice and guidance to resolve the issues above to thereby know everything is as it should be and profit from the complete capabilities and facets of the installed graphics card.

Many thanks in advance.

hiya - that AMD link doesn't work
do you still have the zip-file on your system?
- it should show the version number of the AMD driver..

PS: I wouldn't bother with AMD Evolved - it's mostly just a load of gfx presets
- it actually reduces the speed of games on my rig - I dumped it..

try and tidy up those cables in the case, if you can..
good airflow is essential for keeping things cool..

you need to completely remove all traces of any previous drivers
before you attempt to install a new one - particularly if you're installing new hardware

I use DDU - it's available here: Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) 13.1.0.0
it will remove all traces of NVidia and AMD drivers, but you need to follow
the instructions very carefully and TO THE LETTER, as it's very aggressive..

the new driver installation must take place in SAFE MODE and without a live internet connection -
the reason for removing the internet connection, is so that Win7 won't auto-install a default gfx driver,
- which it will attempt to do as part of it's booting sequence, while you are online..

there is information on DDU and also a later WHQL driver (version 14.8) available here:
Videocards - AMD - ATI Drivers Section - Guru3D.com Forums

AMD are concentrating their efforts on the new R series architecture, so your upgrade was timely..

In my elation/relief I thought I'd share how I solved my particular issue regarding innumerable AMD Catalyst application install failures in the hope that it might help others.

I tried everything, posted in a number of forums and read up on all the solutions and guides that can be found on the internet, tried the following countless times - DDU, Drive Sweeper, uninstalling all AV/Antimalware programs, uninstalling/reinstalling windows updates, uninstalling/reinstalling MS Visual C++ Dists, whilst going in and out of safe mode and retrying different AMD revisions, etc. etc.

Failure after failure.

Drove me nuts and added to that for some reason favourites had disappeared in IE. They couldn't be added nor imported in anyway - all was greyed out. This is where I got lucky because I couldn’t help but try trouble shooting both issues at the same time.

So I looked into the registry and event log. In the registry I noticed some User Shell values with the wrong values/paths and in the event log I drew a correlation for I saw MsiInstaller was pointing to an invalid drive/path with the AMD product install Error 1327.Invalid Drive: E:\ the same invalid value/drive/path in both cases.

E:\ being in my case my External HDD which made me think when having backed up my files in the past, deleting duplicate copied over files/folders into my C:\Recycle Bin, disconnecting the HDD with difficulty, reconnecting the Ex HDD some days later and seeing the deleted duplicate files reappear. This made me connect my Ex HDD and open IE and there were my favourites, disconnected and they were gone and no shuffling the folders around made any difference.

So I changeed the values to all incorrect registry entries by right clicking on each name needing changing selecting Modify… and typing C:\my documents as the value data. There weren’t many 3 or 4 and they were found through REGEDIT in these directories:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folder

If you find one value data incorrect then you can using the ‘command f’ in REGEDIT search through all the directories for others having typed in the exact incorrect value in the search field, in my case E:\ and change each find to the correct value using the above method as you go.

After I was done I closed REGEDIT and ran the AMD install utility and chose uninstall custom, uninstalled anything found, re-ran the utility and for the last time chose install and it did just that with no fails, errors or anything just the complete up-to-date package.

One thing I didn’t do but others have is delete the AMD and Raptr folders and files in REGEDIT.

The other thing I was going to try was AMD Clean Uninstall Utility but thought better of it. If you’re thinking of using it read around beforehand.

And IE is back to normal.
