Hello people! I have Aspire 5739G. It doesn't play dvd but it reads cd. When i enter a disk the explorer is freezing, make some strange sounds and in the best case the player open and it says enter a disk. in the left navigation tree the player has disapear, in the right i can see it. I restor the windows to the manufacture arrange and the problem still exist. i did all the microsoft troubleshootings and the ready fixes, nothing. I scan, nothing. the strange is that it's read cd's. only the registry i haven't touch cause i don't know which is the correct arrange, but i suppose the restor it's clear it, I am not sure. One from the fixes said "Is not a known type of disk." but before was playing it. Any idea?

Assuming your drive is a DVD drive it could be the particular brand of media you're using. Have you tried a different brand, for instance Memorex or Sony.

It could also be an upper or lower filter issue in your registry. This site can help.

Thanks for the answners. Yes i tried the actions with the up and low filters and the problem is here. The problem starts after trying to install a program which was for W98 but iam not sure if this action was the reason. My drivers yes it says that are up-to day. What do tou mean brand of media? I tried from differend aplication (VLC) but i cannot change the player (laptop), and nothig comes better. I restor to the manufactur arrange. Is it like to instal clear the W7? Cause if is it so. .then is sure that is a hardware (player) problem. No?
