I am really confused ... basically I was using vista home premium 64bit, I bought the windows 7 home premium upgrade and installed it as an upgrade over Vista. Everything worked fine (itunes included) but my system seemed slow, I thought this may be down to lots of old unused Vista files clogging up my pc as i don't see that windows 7 completely removed them all, I decided to format my hard drive and do a clean install of windows 7. Once it had installed my network adaptor didn't work (another issue!) I then had to reinstall viata upgrade it to sp2 and then do a windows 7 upgrade, nightmare!!!!!

the problem is now itunes doesn't work properly! it will install but when i try to open it nothing happens, windows recommends i use windows xp sp2 compatibility mode which puts the graphics to basic (not ideal!) but if i try it in vista sp1 as an administrator it works ok except i can't drag and drop music into it and can't use the preview window to pause/skip tracks

I know thats minor and if it hadn't of worked perfectly before i could probably put up with it but as i know it can work 100% right in windows 7 i'm thinking there must be a way to get it right again ...

Any ideas?!!!

nope no luck, same as before, works as an administrator but can't drag and drop music and can't use the preview pane to pause, skip etc, do you think re-installing windows again would correct this as it worked 100% fine the first time so i know it can work as it should in windows 7

If it's really that important for you to have it, and clean installing is no big deal to you, then I'd go for it, sure.

You might do a search around in the software forum under itunes, see if you might find something else that may work.

To Fix The Drag and Drop Issue in Win 7

One way I have found to fix this without completely disabling UAC is changing onle one UAC feature within the Local Security Policies. This way your computer still remains s little more secured than just simply shutting UAC off.

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies > Security Options > User Account Control: Only elevate UIaccess applications that are installed in secure locations

Disable this option.

One other method which I prefer so you don't have to disable this feature, is to uninstall the program we are having issues with. Then create a folder in the root of the C drive called 'Non Secured Programs'. Once the new folder is created, then install the software back but install it in this new folder instead of the 'Program Files' folder. This way its not in a secure location.
