iTunes 9 Released!

Sorry, you most likely need them all installed for that then. Or probably more particularly the apple mobile device support.
I do not have an iphone, so I wouldn't know what it would require. I should of stated you can uninstall those and itunes should work fine for use with just an ipod, or just by itself. Reinstall it. Or go to programs and features and mouse over itunes and click repair at the top. Maybe reboot. Should re install them.

I just did the update to 9.0 and uninstalled the 3 above. After launching iTunes I have an issue once I connect my iPhone to the comp. I get the following message:

"This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install the 64-bit version of iTunes."

Odd, as my iphone was working fine with iTunes before the update.

You uninstalled Apple Mobile Device Support. iPhones are mobile devices...

Uninstall iTunes and then reinstall it. Don't uninstall anything

Airbot's list of uninstall things was for someone who only used itunes with an iPod. You are an exception

iTunes causing my windows 7 64-bit to crash

Running iTunes in general is causing my computer to crash, even if I dont have an ipod syncing. I tried reinstalling iTunes, but it started getting the blue screen again after a while. Honestly it might not be iTunes, but iTunes was acting weird during the first set of crashes, and there were no crashes for a while when i reinstalled it. I included the minidump from the first and most recent crashes. Please help.

Also state your issue with Itunes, ie: what version did you D/L x64? X86? Iphone or Ipod.

Hi Brickwall and welcome

Not itunes. Both dmps were the same. Both suggest is was norton, not itunes. the file that probalby caused it was SYMEFA64.SYS. Norton is sometimes problematic.

I would
Dump Norton
run a system file chect to verity and repair your system files
to run type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>SFC /SCANNOW

Hi folks,

Running the 64 bit iTunes 9.0.2.25 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (can't find a version number but windows update reckons there's none to add), and getting a bluescreen whenever I try and synchronise my iPod classic. I've uninstalled the 3 programmes suggested by Airbot above to no avail. Would anyone be able to take a look at the dump file and see if there's anything else causing it?

Hi Brickwall and welcome

Not itunes. Both dmps were the same. Both suggest is was norton, not itunes. the file that probalby caused it was SYMEFA64.SYS. Norton is sometimes problematic.

I would
Dump Norton
run a system file chect to verity and repair your system files
to run type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>SFC /SCANNOW

Would this mean I can't use norton even if I reinstall it anymore?

It is hard to say...

Norton could be corrupted in your case BUT Norton is ALSO known to cause issues...

I would uninstall Norton...reinstall it and see if the BSOD happens again

If so...you will have to find something else

I have an HP Quad Core with Win764 installed. I have iTunes9 installed. I used it without incident until Christmas Morning when my daughter plugged in her new iPod Touch. My computer blue screened.

At first, these blue screens were related to iTunes, but the progressively became more prevalent until the machine became so unstable it was basically unusable.

It seemed as though it was related to the graphics card, and I made sure my drivers are current.

After a few hours on tech support with HP, they asked me to go back to a restore point. I did, and things were fine.

In fact, I did them one better and did a complete reinstall of Windows 7. The machine worked perfectly for days. I downloaded and installed iTunes 9, and all was well. It seemed to work fine without trying any synching. All drivers are current per Nvidia.

Then, cautiously, I hooked up my iPod Touch (which had always worked fine) to the machine and as soon as it started synching, bam!, blue screen of death. I have uploaded the dump file.

Anything? Any help would be appreciated.

After installing Itunes without incident the issue you are describing is the that the apple mobile device driver/services is not installed.
This is a known issue and I suggest that you un-install/remove all things apple including quicktime and install the latest version of Itunes as administartor and re-synch.
After looking at your system specs I going to assume that you are using WIndows7 64 bit?
If this is correct than download Itunes V9.02 for windows 7 64 bit and use administrator rights when installing.

First, thank you for responding.

Yes, it is a 64 bit system.

When you say install with administrative rights, since I only have one user account, and it has administrator privileges, should I right click on the install file and choose "run as administrator?" Would my failure to do so otherwise result in my problem? Because other than that it sounds like you are simply suggesting I remove and reinstall iTunes?

i've always found itunes troublesome on windows based computers, i'm kinda glad to see im not the only one.

Hey guys.

So I have a related problem. I just bought a brand new Dell XPS Studio 16 notebook. It has been working tremendously with no problems since I got it. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, an i5 processor and 4GB of RAM. I installed iTunes 9 and transfered over my library no problem. But so far in the past month or so my computer has Blue Screened twice! Both incidents occurred when I had iTunes open and was playing music in my room. First the music freezes and repeatedly makes a lot of noise while the computer is frozen, then it proceeds to the Blue Screen. Can anyone help? If I zip and upload the minidump file can someone find out what is going on? I'm positive iTunes is the culprit. I hate the new iTunes 9 :mad:
