Hi guys,
I have a slight problem - a client has an iphone and he backed his contacts up using itunes but the laptop he backed it up on no longer works so I have his hard drive plugged into one of my systems so i can get any files.
But I have no idea what format itunes would save contacts in or where to look.
And can I then put the file on another PC to import onto his new iphone 4?
I should point out that I don't use itunes myself and my client has been very vague as he doesn't know PCs.
Can anyone help
Thanks in advance for your help
Kind regards

Lloyd

EDIT: I found this link what about if you don't have a mac lol

The link you provided in your edit is for Vista but I think I may have found what you're looking for.

The folder is hidden so, click on the Start Orb and type (without quotes) "%appdata%" and hit enter.

It the resulting Explorer window navigate to Apple Computer/MobileSync/Backup.

I took a look inside mine and just saw a bunch of data files. I imagine the info you're looking for is in there somewhere. Hope this helps.

EDIT:

Yeah, it appears in the article you linked that the guy used a Mac to decrypt the binaries for the address book data. He said "ideally" you'd use a Mac but didn't give any other alternative.

This machine was given to me when my dad bought a new computer. I keep throwing upgrades at it and it keeps on ticking. Think I've done everything to it that can be done outside a PSU upgrade so I can run an even BETTER GPU.
Hi, I am trying to transfer my contacts from my iphone first generation to a new iphone. I have created a backup with iTunes of my old iphone data. I would like to access the itunes backup files and restore my old iphone contacts to my new iphone manually.

The backup iTunes files are located on my old PC and I do not wish to sync my new iphone with the old iTunes library. How can a go about restoring my old iphone contacts to my new phone?

Instead of fiddling with the iOS backup files which iTunes created for your old iPhone, I would transfer the contacts directly from your old iphone to your new computer (provided you have access to your old iphone with your contacts loaded). Just use this tool to export your old iphone contacts to your PC

then use the same tool to import the contacts from your PC to your new iphone.

Hope this helps.
